The Los Angeles Angels have traded SS Erick Aybar and their top two pitching prospects, Sean Newcomb and Chris Ellis, to Atlanta for SS Andrelton Simmons.
That's funny... I just wrote that for one of my morning posts this weekend.
To me, it looks like a good deal for Atlanta. They also got around $2mil cash to help pay for Aybar, who really will just play until their next hot shot, Oz Albies, is ready in 2018. The two pitchers might make the Braves rotation next year.
the only really wierd part of this deal to me is why the braves traded their actual big league ready short stop prospect to the dodgers mid season if they were going to put simmons on the block. peraza who is ready now.
right now atlanta has 3 of the top 10 lhp prospects in baseball in my opinion as they stole one in the draft (allard), newcomb and Fried. And they'll probably convert sims to closer now. Not sure about the hitting outside of Freeman but they are going to have some pitching even if they dont all pan out.
It's an obvious attempt to build their rebuilding plan around, at least, 4 front line SP1 type starters that could come out of all the pitchers they have signed via various methods.

Wow.
That was quick.
Newcomb, might be pretty good. but not exactly one of the big 4. goes to show you how everything you read is a negotiation.
but two years, tehran, newcomb, miller...the braves are going to have pitching. nasty pitching. if healthy.
