Well, it’s time to
update my mock draft compilation.
I calculated the last
one in October, averaging the first 10 mock drafts that were posted online.
This time, there are 10 completely new ones that replace the ones from the
past.
Lots of variations here.
I included the rankings from the previous October post.
Case in point… the Mets
pick in the 2nd round was only picked on one mock draft, but since
that pick was at a very high level, he made it at #45.

strikeouts in were the most by an Auburn pitcher since 1999 and the eighth most
in the conference … issued a SEC-low nine walks en route to leading the NCAA
with a 12.11 strikeout-to-walk ratio … ranked 15th in the country with 11.73
strikeouts per nine innings … held opponents to a .210 average … was named a
Second Team All-American by ABCA/Rawlings and earned Third Team All-American
honors from Baseball American and Perfect Game … became the 25th All-American
in program history and second under head coach Butch Thompson … was also named
to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List and earned D1 Baseball Mid-Season
All-American honors ... threw 5.0 scoreless innings and struck out 12 batters
in a win vs. Holy Cross (2/25) … went the distance and earned wins in a pair of
games vs South Carolina (3/31) and in the NCAA Tournament vs. Tennessee Tech
(6/3) … struck out 12 batters in both outings … allowed only two hits in 7.0
shutout innings and matched his season high with 12 strikeouts at Texas A&M
(4/7) … allowed just three hits and struck out seven batters in 6.0 shutout
innings at Tennessee (4/13) … pitched 6.0 innings of relief and earned the win
in the Tigers’ SEC Tournament matchup vs. Ole Miss (5/23).

Decker is a 2018 OF with a 6-0 200 lb. frame from Southampton, NJ who attends
Seneca HS. Big and strong athletic build. Left handed hitter, swings hard with
very good bat speed, swings with intent, loads his hips well and generates
lower body torque, lots of lift in his swing, has the ability to hit to all
fields with power, squares up often and has timing. 7.11, has a loose arm with
good carry on his throws, mature footwork through the ball and has been well
coached defensively. Power and ability to impact the ball to all fields are his
carrying tools and they are big ones. Good student, verbal commitment to
Maryland. Selected for the 2017 Perfect Game All-American Classic.

They don't draft until June, so they can gauge the need for a first round pitcher pack's wisdom...I certainly favor a bat. Draft an arm and I will wonder if and how long until he needs TJS.

This is a HORRIBLE draft for bats.
Best pure hitter is Madrigal but most pop goes to Kelenic
Let’s face it the draft is a crapshoot - even in the top 10 .. do you think Casey Mise is a wise 1st round pick ?

I still would pick 1B/OF/DH Seth Beer - he's a Lucas Duda clone that will lead the world in home runs some day though there isn't a position for him on the field.
He can get you want you need from an AL team some day.
Great we get a top 5 pick and it’s a bad draft for bats...
All I have to say is get it really right... I don’t want to hear this crapshoot stuff ... they have had too many years of trying to get it right
So why go for another meh guy when there’s still the chance of a can’t miss guy on the board whether he’s a stud power hitter or a power arm ?
Draft a stud...cross your fingers...and your toes.

In a terrible year for bats, Casey Mize looks fabulous. What I don't understand is that both he and Brady Singer pitch in the SEC, so I would think they are pitching against the same opponents, and Mize looks way better than Singer statistically.
Soph Year - IP - ERA - WHIP - K/9 - BB/9
Singer - -126.0- 3.21- 1.25 - 9.21- 2.29
Mize - - - 83.2- 2.04- 0.90 - 11.73- 0.97
Their freshman year comparisons and college career numbers are not quite as stark, but still favor Mize by a considerable margin. Could their relative performance in the 2016 Cape Cod league make that much difference? or the fact that Singer is 2 inches taller?
I know a mock this early means little, but if we could snag Mize, I would be pretty happy.
Just draft Madrigal!
Will hit .300 with 15 HR 20SB and Gold Glove at 2nd Base.

The stats don't lie about Madrigal, but I don't expect him around when the Mets will pick at #6.
Let's remember this isn't MY mock... it's a compilation of the last 10 mocks I have found online.
Mine, right now, would be:
1. RHP Brandy Singer and SS Brice Turang will go somewhere in the first five picks.
2. So will RHP Kumar Rocker.
3. The first bat gone will be Madrigal
4. Past this, look for a run on shortstops like we have seen so many more times in the first round of the draft. Teams just don't want to pass on one that they know will not be around when they pick in the second round. My guess it will be SS/3B Gorman
5. That's 5 guys leading up to the Mets pick. If the draft went this way, I would pick either RHP Ethan Hankins or OF Kelenic
