Curious what terms are.

So there's your second baseman Reese.

Tom -

It's a one year deal... can't play more than 100 games... and can't walk within three feet of shortstop.

Just spinning wheels.
Getting nowhere.

What I'm trying to figure out is the 2018 Mets infield.

1. David Wright and T.J. Rivera are easy... they start the season on the DL.

2. Past that, you have Astrubel Cabrera, Matt Reynolds, Amed Rosario, Wilmer Flores, Gavin Cecchini, and Reyes to fill 5 slots.

Who is DFAd?

Duda next???

According to the announcement, Reyes will be a utility player, so they're looking to add a starter. No room for Smith, either.

It's getting VERY crowdwd.

It'll be interesting to see what Sandy has to say at 10:00 tonight.

My guess...

our infield is now done...

Reynolds will fill in at OF5 until Conforto returns... thus, OF is done

2-headed catcher

8 starters

13 relievers

72 wins

Bill -

disagree about Smith

Right now, counting Bruce, the Mets only have 4 legit healthy outfielders, so there is no time to play him at first in April.

Smith seems safe come opening day.

Brewers get a 25 yr old proven centerfielder with 4yrs of an affordable contract.

Alderson gets a 34yr old infielder that is on the decline and mist likely no more value than at least 2 other alternatives already on the Mets roster.

Yet, Alderson and ownership wants fans to have trust and believe the organization is in good hands?

Just 1 more log on the pyre of poor roster/organizational building decisions that have roasted the Mets.

Despite the doom and gloom, this is a move for the bench, IMO. HIs contract is for one year and I think it maxes out at 2.5 million if he hits all of his incentives (so pretty affordable in this day and age).

I think this move will make Matt Reynolds expendable and it adds a player to the bench who can fill in at most of the infield positions, minus first base. This means that Sandy is looking for a starter at 2B or 3B, with Cabrera filling in at the position that does not get addressed. Wilmer and Jose are your "super utility" players on the bench that will cover the infield.

Oh and bob, the haul of prospects that Miami landed for Yelich is pretty impressive........three of their top ten, with Brinson likely their top rated prospect.

I like Yelich, but the Mets would decimate what is left of the farm in an effort to match that deal. Not to mention, where would he play with YC, MC and JB already entrenched as starters AND with Juan Lagares already the odd man out?

If Jose's deal is a ML one, someone must be cut from the 40. If another player is added, then 2 must go.

Mack--did you forget Adrian?
If we carry 13 Ps, then we have a 4-man bench, one piece of it a Catcher. The 2nd piece is OFer #4. If Jose and Wilmer are the IF reserves, where could Smith fit?

As of now, Adrian is the 1Bman, with Wilmer the backup. There is no #5 OFer, either, so along with Smith both Reynolds and Cecchini are gone. And when 4to returns, the noose tightens.

I see a bench of 1 C, 1 OFer, Wilmer and Jose. No room for Smith.

I did forget him

Brewers get Cain too?

This is exactly the problem that Alderson suffers from.
Looking at each move independently.
Why pay Reyes to fill a roster spot when Flores and Reynolds already exist?
Why continue to look for another starter at 2B??
What about Ozuna?
Or Blackmon last year?

A dependable, quality Centerfielder (and preferably leadoff hitter) has been a bigger need for the Mets going back to last year than signing Bruce.

And... isn't the Mets farm system in such poor shape because of Alderson's poor job in stocking it?

The excuses for the poor leadership are mind boggling

Be careful with Michael Conforto.....
He had 1/2 year of success??
AND a serious arm injury that occurred just by swinging a bat!

Seriously, all he did was swing a baseball bat.

He didn't dive into a wall. Didn't run into a 6 foot 5 inch 260lb First Baseman on a close play. He didn't hurt the shoulder sliding into a catcher's shin guard. The shoulder was not injured making a sliding catch.

Conforto swung a baseball bat, something that he will have to do countless more times if he is going to hopefully have a lasting MLB career.

That shoulder will be suspect all year long.

These Mets just can't say good-by. I am okay with Jose coming back but why do we need Reyes, Cabrera and Gonzo blocking the youngsters they wanted to see play?

As it stands now, Gonzo is blocking Smith, Reyes is blocking Flores, Bruce will block Lagares and Cabrera shouldn't have been brought back.

This team gets rid of old, unproductive players so that it can play the promising ones and then goes back to the old players again.

After 7 years of Alderson, no sense of direction.

Gonna Trade matz for Shaw from the brewers, sign lance lynn

bill metsiac said...

That'd give us an all-RH rotation, and a heavily LH lineup. Won't fit.

Who cares? It’s the best team possible
