Gerrit Cole or Zack Wheeler.

I will pass reluctantly on King Felix and Matt Harvey. Just a gut feeling, can't shake it.

I just read that Homer Bailey is hoping to increase his value in free agency by changing his name to Fireball Bailey.

No Big Sexy?

The Braves are not going to pick up the option on Teheran.

I think the Mets need to consider bringing him in on a one-year deal until Szapucki is ready.

He had a nice stretch this year.

I am also intrigued by Michael Wacha........28 years old, coming off some injuries but effective when he is healthy. Depends on the cost (as always) but he could be a nice back end of the rotation piece for a few seasons until the next wave of "kids" are ready, right?

Good name also.

It is going to take a long time to develop a "wave" of starters.

H.Gonzalez (potential SP5) will be ready by 2020 ASG break. Szapucki opening day 2021. Past that, only red chip starters are the two HS kids we drafted last year.

It is going to take ahile.

Me?

There are simply too many quality SS in this chain.

I would trade Gimenez even up for a top 25 SP prospect that played last year at the AAA level.

Mack, I like the Teheran idea, IF he would do one year, two max..

There could be two other potential starters from minors soon:

Jordan Humphreys, who just made the AFL All Star team - he may be better than I thought.

And Tylor Megill, who had a fine season very comparable to Szapucki. (I do, however, think Megill is going to be turned into a power relief arm).

There are good, cheap options.

If I'm building a team in the year 2020, I'm investing in the bullpen and in position players.

I think Mets should go downmarket for a #5 starter, don't overspend, use those limited financial resources for the pen.

Jimmy, I agree, the pen and the back up offensive players are vital to success. I am going to address that in a scheduled article soon.

In a Big Sexy flashback kind of signing, I would kick the tires on Rich Hill. When healthy, he's been very effective in the latter stages of his career. And he's a lefty.

Boy, Rich Hill was not very good until age 35 - great since.

4.72 ERA up until then, 2.91 since.

Looking for a 5th starter or 3rd starter type. Im interested int he reclamation projects or guys coming off down years like Porcello or Wacha at low $5 mm type. Or im interested in seeing what guys at the QO who would take a 2-3 year deal might be, the Keuchels/Ryu would be. Id also kick the tires on Bumgartner, just to see where the price nets out.
