MLB
Trade Rumors: Mets Claim LHP Stephen Tarpley. “He struggled mightily last
year during his lone season as a Marlin, allowing 11 earned runs in as many
innings and issuing eight walks. The 27-year-old has, however, managed a stingy
2.88 ERA across 65 2/3 Triple-A innings.”
According
to FanGraphs, Stephen
Tarpley has 2 Minor League Options left.
MLB
Trade Rumors: Mets Sign Brandon Drury To Minor-League Deal. “Over the past
three seasons (spanning 582 plate appearances), Drury has just a .205/.254/.346
line with 16 home runs as a Yankee and Blue Jay. He was outrighted off
Toronto’s 40-man roster in September.”

breakout prospects -- 1 for each team. For the Mets: “Jaylen Palmer, IF/OF - Palmer showcased some of
the loudest tools in the Mets’ system at Rookie-level Kingsport in 2019,
finishing among the Appalachian League leaders with seven home runs
(tied-seventh), 63 hits (tied-fifth) and 100 total bases (tied-fifth). He also
led the circuit in strikeouts, fanning 108 times in 62 games. The 22nd-round
pick (2018) has big raw power to go along with premium athleticism and speed
that enabled him to play third base, shortstop, center field and right field
during fall instructional league.”
Brian Joura Mets360: In celebration of new
Mets SP Carlos Carrasco. “While it’s debatable if the Mets needed to import
an impact shortstop, they absolutely needed to add a high-end starter. And they
did just that with Carrasco.”
Seth Lugo is far better, far more valuable and makes the team a lot better as a shutdown reliever in the bullpen. Yes, he wants to start. But he can make a fine, long-term living branding himself as a money 8th inning arm. #Mets https://t.co/e996am7DZ8

This is from 1979. As Sports Director of WHN I invited sports notables to be guest DJs in the morning. We couldn’t pay them, but Tommy said he would do it if the station paid for him to take his coaches to dinner. 800 dollars later I was afraid I would be fired! Seeing that Beltran. Signed a $17 million a year, 7 year contract 16 years ago shows why a contract of around $30 million a year for a Springer in 2021 $$$ is not outlandish. If Springer can actually get that.
One big difference between Beltran and Springer is that Beltran signed going into his 28 year old season turning 28 in April of his first year with the Mets. Springer is 21 and will turn 32 in September 2021. Not sure he gets more than the amount that the Blue Jays offered. It will also be tough for him to get more than 5 years.
So, Jed Hoyer wants Francisco Alvarez for Kris Bryant, according to MLBTR. Is Hoyer stoned?
Standard negotiation - ask for the moon at the start. Hopefully Sandy is better than that.
