1st CitiField Concert: Paul McCartney

He played the very first concert at Shea Stadium 44 years ago. Now, a touring industry website reports that Paul McCartney will perform the very first show at its replacement: Citi Field.

The site TicketNews.com says that “various reliable touring industry executives” have the ex-Beatle baptizing the sterling new stadium as a music venue with shows on July 17th and 18th, with a possible third performance added on the 21st.

Last fall, McCartney appeared at the final concert held at the now demolished Shea, as a guest star for Billy Joel’s series of shows there.

The proposed new concerts would take place during a break in the Mets’ schedule, between July 12th and 27th.

McCartney, and The Beatles, inaugurated Shea as a sometime concert venue with a historic show on August 15th, 1965. In the years since, some of the top musicians have played there, including The Stones, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, and Simon & Garfunkel.

Oh joy, that's going to be wonderful for the field. They'll come back from their roadtrip and Beltran will hurt his knee or something on some crappy sod from the setup of the stage. Macca oughta wait until October because everyone knows that the Mets won't need their stadium for anything in October.

Hey, fans! If you’re interested in attending this concert be sure to check out the opening act, The Script. They’re an Irish trio full of talent in both their writing and vocal arrangements. Listen to some of their tunes on their my space page: http://www.myspace.com/thescript. Enjoy!
