B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

In their second doubleheader of the season, the
B-Mets split two with Connecticut winning the first game 1-0 in
eight frames and losing the second, 5-3 in 10 innings. In
Game 1, Jenrry Mejia made his AA debut and shined with
seven scoreless innings allowing just five hits and three walks
to go with five strikeouts. The Defenders also got scoreless
work from their starter Daryl Maday, who went five innings
scoreless followed by two good frames from Matt Yourkin to
send it to extra innings. In the first extra frame, Daniel Otero
came on to spell Yourkin. After getting a simple groundout to
start things, he muffed a throw from first baseman Brett Pill at
first allowing Josh Thole to reach. The next hitter, Lucas Duda,
proceeded to double down the right field line to score Thole
and give the B-Mets the walk-off win. Roy Merritt was awarded
the win for throwing a scoreless top of the eighth. Game 2
featured another pitchers’ duel. Lefty Mike Antonini threw a
season-best seven innings allowing just two runs to get a nodecision
and Ben Snyder tied a season-high with five innings
of two-run ball in the spot start. With the contest tied at two,
the back end of the twinbill went to extra innings. In the ninth,
Connecticut broke through against Edgar Ramirez on an RBI
single from pinch-hitter Tyler LaTorre. However, the B-Mets
answered the bell in the bottom of the ninth with a Thole RBI
single. The game would be put away in the 10th, though,
thanks to two runs off Julio De La Cruz. Joe Paterson picked
up the win, throwing the final 1.1 innings scoreless and De La
Cruz lost his third straight game.
