B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

In 55 games so far in 2009, the B-Mets had yet
to be shutout, but that moment came yesterday as they succumbed
to four different Harrisburg pitchers combining for a 3
-0 blanking. Ryan Coultas made the start for the B-Mets and
had an average night going 5.2 innings allowing three runs on
seven hits to take the loss. Luis Atilano returned from the
disabled list yesterday for the Senators and hurled four scoreless
innings before handing it over to the bullpen with a 3-0
lead, which they kept intact. Dave Williams, who followed
Atilano, threw two scoreless frames to pick up the win in relief
and Josh Wilkie threw the ninth inning for his first save in two
tries. The top three men in the Binghamton order clocked twohit
days: Jose Coronado, Nick Evans and Josh Thole. The BMets
have no lost seven of their last eight games.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Eric Brown will make a
second consecutive start for the B-Mets. Last time out, Brown
was spectacular, throwing seven no-hit innings at Portland
June 4 giving up just one run with three walks and six strikeouts
in a no-decision. For the year, Brown is 3-4 with a 4.84
ERA in 44.2 innings. He is 0-2 with a 5.51 ERA in three starts
covering 16.1 innings. Brown worked as both a starter and as
a reliever in 2008 for Binghamton and recorded a 5-8 record
with a 5.46 ERA in 17 starts spanning 94 innings. He was the
Mets’ 18th-round choice in 2005 out of Wingate University
(NC).

LHP Justin Jones gets the call for Harrisburg tonight for his
11th start. He is coming off his best start of the season June
4 against New Hampshire when he threw six shutout innings
allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out six in
a no-decision. He had recorded decisions in all of his previous
starts, tallying a 2-7 record and a 5.05 ERA in 51.2 innings for
the year. His seven losses lead the Eastern League. After
recording a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings in April, he was roughed
up for 23 earned runs in 29.1 innings in May, equating to a
7.06 ERA. In 2008, Jones saw time with three different Washington
minor-league affiliates ranging from Hagerstown (Low-
A) all the way up to Harrisburg, where he finished the season
making 12 starts with a 5.69 ERA in 55.1 innings. He was
originally drafted by the Cubs in the second round of the 2002
draft and was traded to the Twins at the deadline in 2004. He
pitched for New Britain in 2006 before being picked up by the
Nationals in 2007.

LATE-INNING LETDOWNS:

Six of the B-Mets’ last seven games
have come down to the wire with each being decided in the
eighth inning or later. Binghamton is 1-6 during the current
stretch and have been outscored in the waning innings (8th-
10th) 18-5 leading to five late-inning losses.
