B-Mets Notes

LAST GAME:

RHP Brad Holt shined in his AA debut going 6.1
innings allowing three runs on just two hits in a no-decision.
He left with a chance to win, however, as Binghamton once
again led through seven innings only to see that lead evaporate
in the eighth when Connecticut scored four runs to take
advantage of a costly miscue by Ruben Tejada, who committed
his seventh error of the season on a Mike McBryde ground
ball, to breeze by the B-Mets 7-4. Binghamton strode out to an
early 2-0 lead thanks to a Josh Thole sacrifice fly and a Shawn
Bowman RBI double. After the Defenders tied the score in the
fifth, Binghamton answered with RBI doubles from Lucas
Duda and Carl Loadenthal to retake the lead 4-2. Joe Paterson
picked up his sixth save in seven chances as he threw the
final two innings allowing just a hit with four strikeouts. After
missing three straight games, Bowman led Binghamton with a
3-5 day at the plate with a double and an RBI.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP

(Game 1): RHP Jenrry Mejia
will get the ball in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Mejia is fresh
up from St. Lucie (High-A) where he dazzled with a 4-1 record
and 1.97 ERA in 50.1 innings. He was named to the Florida
State League Mid-Season All Star Team before being promoted
to Binghamton. The hard-throwing right-hander is now
the second 19-year old prospect on the team along with
Ruben Tejada. Mejia is considered the seventh-best prospect
in the organization by Baseball America. The Dominican-born
righty has been rushed through the system, having just 115
innings of professional experience entering 2009. Last season,
after making three starts in the Gulf Coast League, Mejia
pitched for Brooklyn (SS-A) and produced a 3.49 ERA and a 3-
2 mark in 57 innings.

RHP Daryl Maday will make the start in Game 1 for Connecticut.
Maday’s last start came May 31 against Portland, when
he went 4.1 innings allowing five runs on seven hits in a loss.
He has faced the B-Mets once, May 19 at Dodd Stadium. In
that start, he allowed just two runs on eight hits to get a nodecision.
For the year he is 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA in 49.2 innings.
Saw time at three different levels last season with the
Giants. He opened the season with Augusta (Low-A) going 9-4
with a 1.55 ERA in 104.2 innings. He then made four appearances
with both Connecticut and San Jose to finish out the
season. He was the Giants 30th-round pick in the 2006 draft
out of Arkansas and underwent Tommy John surgery on his
right elbow after the draft.
