Indy 2, Bisons 0

Indianapolis beat the hapless Bisons, 2-0.

SP Jonathan Niese got off to another bad start on Sunday, giving up two runs in the 3rd inning. At that point, his AAA ERA was 8.03. Niese left after 6.0 innings pitched, and stated out: 6 H, 2 ER, 4 K, 1 BB, 7.36. There really is no place to send him other than extended camp and that’s not going to do anybody any good. No’ let him pitch his way out of this funk, or pitch himself out of Queens. One bright note: no other club wants him right now.

The Herd managed only six hits, one of which was a double by SS Luis Rivera. Rivera is one of the few bats (.455) for the team, and it’s nice to see a good guy play well. I remember that his then girlfriend in Savannah was the person who called Josh Thole’s parents, right after Thole was knocked cold by a bad bounce while he played first base.

Tim McNab (1.71), Jon Switzer (2.19), and Elmer Dessens (1.24) combined for three scoreless innings of relief. Not too shabby ERA’s for a bad team.
