Lucie 5, Lakeland 3

St. Lucie beat Lakeland, 5-3.

The big news is the resturn of Brant Rustich to the starting rotation. Brant’s stats were: 4.0 IP, 7H, 3ER, 0 BB, 7Ks, 2.57. Could be better but could be worse. I thought it was a great return to a starter role, especially the strikeouts. Remember, Rustich has some of the more nasty stuff in the organization.

Emary Frederick got his 4th save, with2.o innings of scoreless relief (2.49). I still think he deserves a bump up.

Hitting wise, 2B Greg Veloz continues his quiet climb back up the BA chain… 2 more hits tonight and a BA of .264. That’s .333 in his last teo games.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis (.266) hit his 8th home run of the season, and Carlos Guzman (who should be an all-star) hit his 7th (.293).

All-star catcher Frankie Pena went 0-3 and now is batting .206 (sic).

Not only does Carlos Guzman deserves to be an allstar but he also deserves the call up to Binghamton where they desperately need an outfielder who can hit with some power.
