A close game was an afterthought after two innings thanks to 11 early runs in Binghamton’s 14-1 win over New Britain Monday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. Brad Holt output his best start at AA to date with seven scoreless frames to pick up the win.
The B-Mets brought 10 men to the plate in the first inning against Rock Cats’ starter Cole DeVries. Josh Petersen, Lucas Duda, Jose Coronado and Ruben Tejada all picked up RBI doubles in the frame that saw six runs come across to score.
The second frame saw more of the same as Caleb Stewart brought in two runs with a bases-loaded, two-run double and Tejada, Mike Nickeas and Emmanuel Garcia slapped three consecutive run-scoring singles to make it 11-0. Former Mets’ farmhand Deolis Guerra took over for DeVries after allowing the double to Stewart.
DeVries lasted just 1.1 innings allowing 10 runs, 7 earned on 7 hits to take the loss.
In addition to the offensive fireworks, Binghamton (33-56) showcased top right-handed prospect Brad Holt who fired seven shutout innings facing three over the minimum despite allowing four hits and a walk. He notched the win and struck out seven men in the process.
Garcia, Petersen and Tejada enjoyed three-hit performances while Coronado and Tejada drove in three runs each. Tejada went 7-10 over the last two games of the series with 5 RBIs.
The 3-6 showing for Petersen was his second straight three-hit game pushing his average up to .318 for the year.
The win resulted in a split of the four-game set with New Britain (46-44), which had won the two previous series between the two teams.
Duda extended his hitting streak to 13 games with his first inning RBI double. It was his only hit in the contest.
