B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

The B-Mets finished of the 14-game, season
series with New Hampshire yesterday with a 10-3 loss, which
gave the Fisher Cats the four-game sweep. Binghamton won
just 4 of the team’s 14 meetings. New Hampshire was quick
to jump on starter Mike Antonini, plating three runs in the first
inning aided by two walks and hits from Brad Emaus and
David Cooper. In the second, the Fisher Cats knocked Antonini
out with four more runs. The 1.2 innings stint was the shortest
of the year for the southpaw. New Hampshire added three
more the rest of the way and led 10-0 heading into the home
half of the ninth inning. The B-Mets would not give up, however.
Mike Nickeas got Binghamton on the board with a bases
-loaded, RBI single and Emmanuel Garcia followed up with a
two-run single to make it 10-3. Garcia notched three of the BMets
seven hits and drove in two runs.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

Coming off his best start of
the season, RHP Dylan Owen will look to maintain his positive
momentum tonight against the SeaWolves. June 29 Owen
fired 7.2 innings scoreless at Akron allowing just four hits and
a walk. He struck out a season-best seven men in a game that
Binghamton won 1-0 in 10 innings. The B-Mets haven’t won
since. On the year, Owen is 0-5 with a 6.00 ERA in 63 innings
with Binghamton. He has struggled at NYSEG Stadium with a
9.22 ERA in six starts at home compared with a 3.53 ERA in
six starts on the road. He tied for the Florida State Leaguelead
with 12 wins last season with St. Lucie. Owen was the
Mets’ 20th-round pick in 2007 out of Francis Marion University
(SC).

RHP Luis Marte is slated to make his 15th start of the season
for Erie tonight. He has been a reliable arm for the SeaWolves
this season and has worked six innings or better in six consecutive
starts, recording decisions in all but two of his 14
starts. His last outing came June 29 at Harrisburg when he
gave up three runs in a seven-inning start to pick up a rare nodecision.
On the year, he is 5-7 with a 3.97 ERA in 88.1 innings.
Left-handed hitters have handled Marte well with a.315
average compared with .212 for right-handed sticks. He was
named a Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star last season
for Lakeland (High-A) where he made seven starts with a 1.98
ERA in 41 innings. After missing two months due to a right
elbow strain, he reported to Erie where he finished the season
with a 4-4 mark and a 5.05 ERA in 10 starts spanning 57
innings. He was signed by the Tigers in November 2006.

ROUNDTRIPPERS RARE:

Entering play today, the B-Mets have
hit just 31 homers, the fewest in the Eastern League. Erie, by
contrast leads the circuit with 88 bombs. Last year, Binghamton
crushed 106 homers. They are on pace for 56 in 2009
