1. Things just aren’t going well for RP Roy Merritt lately. He hasn’t been as sharp as he was in the beginning of the season, and he took the loss Wednesday in the ALG, after giving up 1-ER in 1-IP (9.00). His last ten outings: 2-0, 4.63. Not a very good ERA for a closer. The bad news: 5-ER in last three outing, totaling 4.0-IP… the good news… K/IP ratio still excellent at 12/11.2 over thelast 10 games.
2. I don’t plan on updating my prospect list until the end of the season, but if I did this week, Wilmer Flores would remain #1, especially since he has now carried his own at two levels at 18-yrs old or younger. My #2 would be Brad Holt, who, though he has been erratic at times, can completely dominate a game. And a new #3 would be Josh Thole, who gets more shit about his supposed questionable arm and lack of pop. PEOPLE… THE METS HAVE A CATCHER THAT IS LEADING THE PROSPECT-FILLED AA DIVISION. DUH.
3. Fernandonthedl Martinez had surgery during the all-star break, to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
4. SP Jhonathan Torrez was promoted from the GCL Mets to K-Port. He went 4-0, 0.82 this season for GCL, in 4 games, three starts. He started Thursday night and should take the official scorer out to dinner… 4.0-IP, 10-R. 1-ER…
5. SP Gonzalez Germen was promoted from the VSL Mets to the GCL Mets and the Mets wasted little time seeing what they got. German was basically flawless for two years on the VSL team, going 5-2, 1.34 in 15 games, 14 starts last year, and 5-0, 1.80 this season; however, his first stateside start didn’t pan out: 4.0-IP, 4-ER, 4-K, 1-BB, 9.00
6. SP Marcos Camerena continued to mow them down for the DSL Mets, raising his yearly stats to: 5-0, 1.76, in eight starts.
7. In order to accommodate the improved play of Hector Pellot at 2B, St. Lucie has moved Greg Veloz to 3B. Now, Veloz will lose his job to David Wright, instead of Luis Castillo.
8. For the heck of it, I did decide to determine just how many minor league Mets I consider full prospects and the potential of reaching Queens as a full time player… came up with was 13… in no particular order:

2. Jonathan Niese – SP – Buffalo –
3. Brad Holt – SP – Binghamton –
4. Jennry Mejia – SP – Binghamton -
5. Fernando Martinez – OF – Buffalo –

8. Ike Davis – 1B – Binghamton –
9. Brandon Moore – SP – Brooklyn -
10. Jeurys Familia – SP – Savannah -
11. Roy Merritt – RP – Binghamton –
12. Alonzo Harris – 2B – Kingsport –
13. Nefli Zapata – C – GCL -
I know this looks like a very small list for an organization with 9 minor league teams x 25 players… but it’s a fair amount. Hopefully, more will come out of the woodwork, but, in my opinion, this is a good list of potential high-success players to come out of one organization over a period of five years. It would represent more than half of a 25-man roster.
