Closer to the Bay, less Molina, blood spinning, Arroyo... and Bill Pulsipher

Jason Bay

Jason Bay has already made it clear that he doesn't want to return to the Boston Red Sox and now that the Sox have Mike Cameron on the roster, they don't want Bay back, either. And now the New York Mets are supposedly considering sweetening its offer of four years and around $65 million by adding a fifth year, according to the New York Post. - yahoo

Mack - with a littel luck and some prayers, the Mets could go into the weekend with both their pen and outfield set.

Benji Molina:

Meanwhile, talks with 35-year-old catcher Bengie Molina have slowed way down because the Mets don't want to give him a guaranteed third year. - yahoo

Mack - there's no rush here... no one else is going to offer Molina a third year and the Mets will get back to this prior to ST

Jose Reyes:

According to a report in today’s New York Daily News, New York Mets shortstop, Jose Reyes, visited a scrutinized doctor, Dr. Tony Galea, numerous times. Galea is a physician based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, who is noted for using a technique called blood spinning to help athletes recover from injuries more quickly. As described in the article, the blood spinning technique, “involves putting a patient’s blood in a centrifuge to separate the platelets then injecting the blood back into the patient”. -

Mack: I always had a different definition of "spinning"...

Bronson Arroyo:

The other target the Mets are said to be “intently focused” on is Reds starter Bronson Arroyo, who is the subject of “serious talks” with the Mets concerning the right-hander and possibly two other players.
“If Mets just wanted (Bronson), the deal might have been done already,” said one baseball official familiar with the talks. “Mets are also discussing one, maybe two other players with Cincinnati.” He refused to disclose the names, but the early speculation in these parts is that the Mets may have a player under contract hat needs to be moved in order for the deal to be expanded  -  baseball digest

Bill Pulsipher:

Arecibo 8, Ponce 1 - Former Major Leaguer Bill Pulsipher allowed five hits over six scoreless innings to lead the Lobos over the Leones. The lefty, who pitched parts of six big league seasons, struck out five and didn't walk a batter to improve to 1-4 in six starts with Arecibo. Jesus Feliciano (Mets) had a two-run triple and Radames Nazario (Rockies) went 2-for-3 with a two-RBI double and scored a run  -  mlb

Mack...I was ok with signing Molina for a 1 or 2 year deal to nurture Santos and Thole along without expecting too much from either one...but now that we have Blanco as a backup, and Molina thinks that he's going to get 3 years; I'm leaning a lot more towards letting Santos/Blanco split time behind the plate until Thole is considered ready defensively...
