Gary Marches (?), Damon, Beltran, Broadway... and Los Mets

Gary Marches:

The Mets still have time this offseason to make moves and they will probably end up with Jason Bay and maybe a pitcher like Jon Garland or Doug Davis but that isn't enough. i guess the only thing Mets fans can do is sit back and wait and hope. I don't know what is possible but maybe the Mets can make a trade for someone like a Bronson Arroyo or Carlos Zambrano, the only thing I know is they are stuck in a bad spot with the Phillies being clearly better still and the Braves maybe even surpassing the Mets. - gmarchese.

Johnny Damon:

Damon is playing close attention to Matt Holliday and Jason Bay, the premier outfield free agents, land. Holliday isn’t on the Yankees’ radar; there is a little interest in Bay.

“Matt Holliday, the stuff on him is starting to pick up,” Damon said of the fellow Boras client. “And wherever Bay doesn’t end up will open a door for me.”

Could that be the Mets? They have made a four-year offer worth $60 million-$65 million to the right-handed hitting left fielder. Should Bay reject the Mets, they might have an interest in Damon to play left, add power to an anemic lineup and provide a strong clubhouse presence. -  NYP

Carlos Beltran:

Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes will be back next season. That, presuming they recover in a reasonable fashion, is already a major upgrade over what Jerry Manuel used to fill out his lineup card in the second half of 2009. Regardless of your questioning of their heart and hustle and grit and intangibles and all the other adjectives you can't quantify, they are both very good Major League ballplayers. And they don't raise the payroll one nickel.

Lance Broadway:

Blue Jays signed RHP Lance Broadway to a minor league contract. Broadway was selected in the first round of the 2005 draft and was once considered a great prospect. He can safely be considered a total bust. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 6.17 ERA and 1.56 WHIP this past season in 19 appearances (17 starts) at the Triple-A level. -

Omar Minaya:

If you think Omar Minaya only goes after "certain players" it's because you want to believe the poorly performing GM of your favorite baseball team favors one race over another. It's because you want to believe he has some sort of scheme to decrease the number of non-Latinos in baseball, or to increase money paid out to Latinos in this country. Criticizing his moves in the strict baseball context is not enough for you - it has to become personal, an assault on Omar's character. As always, you're free to have these beliefs, but you're flat-out wrong. -  amazinavenue
