No Pedro, Damon vs. Bay, more friggin Benji... and Takashi Kashiwada

Pedro Martinez:

A Mets official has denied an ESPN.com report that the Mets are looking into bringing back free agent starter Pedro Martinez. Pedro is seeking a salary of over $7.5 million in 2009 and the Mets are rightfully unwilling to fork over that kind of cash. They're reportedly in negotiations with Joel Pineiro, Doug Davis and Jon Garland  -  rotoworld

Johnny Damon:

From reading some of the comments here and on Metsblog I’m kind of shocked at the level of disrespect towards Damon. Yes he has a rag arm and his power that he displayed as a Highlander most likely won’t play the same at $iti Field but he walks into your clubhouse a two time World Champion a high profile player on two of the highest profile teams and matching him with Frenchy would finally turnaround the Mets Clubhouse.

I don’t get this either. Sort of reminds me of all the negative writing this time last year about Adam Dunn. Feel free to go look up what he did in DC last year.

Benji Molina:

If the team fails to secure Bay, it will strongly consider raising its offer to Molina. But if Bay signs, the Mets will hold a harder line with Molina

Takashi Kashiwada:

The 1997 Mets bullpen lacked a lefty specialist throughout the season. Sure, closer John Franco threw left handed, but who could you bring in to get a tough lefty batter out in the middle innings? The answer is no one, and that is why I still remember Mo Vaughn hitting the Shea scoreboard when the late Cory Lidle was summoned from the bullpen during the first ever interleague game in Mets history. Takashi Kashiwada was suppose to help, but lacked command and didn’t distinguish himself against left handed pitching. Hence the Lidle/Vaughn scenario. - nybaseballdigest.
