Carlos Delgado:
Marty Noble of MLB.com, reported late last night that free agent first baseman Carlos Delgado has postponed his decision to begin playing baseball due to an undisclosed setback.
The Mets’ interest in Carlos Delgado, an interest that was not shared by all members of the club hierarchy after the season, may begin to wane now that the free agent has postponed his return to active baseball. Two members of the Mets’ staff have said that Delgado won’t resume playing until the middle of next month.
Noble writes that no specific reason was given for the delay, but one of the people aware of the change said on Tuesday night that Delgado probably isn’t yet physically ready to play. As recently as Dec. 15, general manager Omar Minaya said that the club planned to monitor Delgado when he began to play in the Puerto Rican winter league in his native country that night. - metsmerizedonline
Masato Yoshii
Probably the best Japanese player in Mets history. I remember him as very “pedestrian”, but kept his team in the game. Ironic how a team with such a bad history of success with Japanese imports actually had two in their 1998 starting rotation. He won 12 games in 1999, and was the starter in the classic “Grand Slam Single” Game 5 of the NLCS. If not for Orel Hershiser’s three plus innings of shutout relief, Yoshii would have been the goat that sent the 99′ Mets home. The next year he was traded to Colorado for Bobby (lefty) Jones. Yoshii never reached his 99′ level of success after that. - Mike Silva
Ruben Gotay:
Carolina 5, Caguas 3 - Royals prospect Mario Castillo allowed one run on six hits and struck out four over four innings to pick up his first win for the Gigantes. Major League veteran Ruben Gotay doubled in a run for Carolina, while Red Sox prospect Aaron Bates collected three hits and an RBI for the Criollos - mlb

Drew Costello:
A lot of people may argue that the Mets greatest need is pitching. I would argue that a power hitting LF is their greatest need. The Mets were a good pitching team before the injuries to their every day players happened. Pitchers such as Mike Pelfrey felt the pressure of having to keep their team in the game by not giving up any runs. The Mets were down right awful at hitting the ball out of the ball park last season. It felt as though every run they scored had to come from 3 base hits, which is tough to live by especially when players go into their inevitable slumps. That being said, one of Jason Bay or Matt Holliday needs to be a priority for this team. Adding 35 home runs to the middle of the lineup will take the pressure off the pitchers and the rest of the lineup. - metsfansforever
Rich Harden:
I'd take a little bit of optimism away from looking at these numbers. If Harden continues to regain his ground ball tendencies of old, he will have a better defense behind him to turn them into outs. And his luck could turn, too. Each little piece should save a tenth of a run here-and-there from his ERA. Harden of the 4.10 in the NL could easily be Harden of the 3.80 in the AL—more two-seamers, better defense, better luck is not too much to ask for, is it? And I haven't started talking about fly balls and home runs yet.- hardballtimes
