Bobby Bo, Chapman, Ryota's mechanics, Fonzie... and Victor Diaz

Bobby Bonilla:

And that’s what the Mets would be doing here. Bay is a better player than Bonilla, and we have to assume he’s unlikely to show anyone The Bronx (or British Columbia). Lackey is two years younger than Appier was when the Mets signed him to a three-year, $30 million deal after the 2000 season, but essentially they are the same pitcher; before ’01, Appier was 128-96 with one All-Star appearance and one place in the Cy Young voting (third in 1993) while Lackey is 102-71 with one All-Star and one place in the Cy Young (third in ’07). -   nyp

Aroldis Chapman:

On the surface, Aroldis Chapman's 30-minute workout on Tuesday for about 15 teams appeared to have accomplished very little. Because of bad weather, the workout took place indoors at the Baseball USA complex in Houston. Chapman wore sneakers for his bullpen session. He threw just 40-50 pitches off a wooden mound. He reached as high as 97 mph, though he was mostly in the 92-93 mph range. Most important, Chapman did not face any hitters, which really is the true test of how advanced he is as a pitcher. - ESPN

Ryota Igarashi:

According to Newman, Igarashi used to AVERAGE 96+ MPH, and topped out at 98. That was a few years ago, however, and his velocity has dropped a bit — but still nears the mid-90s. He complements the heater with a splitter, and he might also mix in a slider and curve. His one negative is control. That said, he might turn out to be somewhere between Fernando Rodney and Jorge Julio. I’m going to keep my expectations low, with the hopes of being pleasantly surprised. If he’s as good as the reports say, this is a good signing for the Mets, who need all the relief help they can find  -  mets today

Edgardo Alfonzo:

Magallanes 11, Zulia 4 - Former Major Leaguer Edgardo Alfonzo homered, doubled and in three RBIs in the Navegentes' rout of the Aguilas. Robinson Chirinos (Cubs) also drove in three runs and collected two hits, raising his Winter League average to .341. Deolis Guerra (Twins) allowed one earned run over six innings to improve to 2-0 for playoff-bound Magallanes.

Victor Diaz:

Aguilas 13, Licey 1 - The Cibaenas scored 13 unanswered runs as the Aguilas cruised past the Tigres. Major League free agent Kevin Barker went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored to lead the offensive outburst. Former Major Leaguer Victor Diaz added a two-RBI double, while Indians right-hander Fausto Carmona allowed a run on five hits over five innings to pick up his first Winter League win - mlb
