Alex Cora, Wilmer Flores, Project Prospect... and Mack's Trip To Dodgertown

Alex Cora:

Alex Cora - Cora is a nice utility player. He filled in admirably before falling to the epidemic of injuries that befell the Mets last year. If he is healthy, his defense is solid enough that you do not cringe when he is in the game. His offense is below average however, with 2008 being a bit of an offensive aberation. - link

Wilmer Flores:

Flores seems to feel for the ball, relying on his hand eye coordination, while not utilizing his lower half at all. His approach looked like he was just trying to not fail, while showing no aggressiveness which would indicate a lack of confidence at the plate. Flores must learn how to incorporate his lower half and make the knob of the bat take a direct line to the baseball. By learning to use his lower half, Flores will begin to unleash some of his power potential. - link

Project Prospect Top 50:

10 Fernando Martinez LF/RF Plus power/good contact skills may allow him to ascend to stardom some day 21.5 NYM MLB

48 Jon Niese LHP Commands a sinking FB; CB and SL both get swing-throughs; Likely no. 3 starter 23.4 NYM MLB - link

Mack In Dodgertown:

Oh how I miss seeing games at Dodgertown. The Dodgers moved into the complex to bare their name in 1948 for Spring Training (they were still the Brooklyn Dodgers back then) and played their final game in the middle of the 2008 Spring Training season (they had a few exhibition games in China before the Bejing Summer Olympics and stayed in Arizona for the final week of Spring Training and officially moved to a new complex in Arizona the following season).

Mack from Mack's Mets stopped by the Dodgertown complex in Vero Beach a few weeks ago on his trip to Port St. Lucie. And he wrote about it and included some photos. I love how he starts the post - with a picture of one of the Dodgertown signs and the words "Couldn’t help myself.". Nice work Mack. A few pictures and words worth reading.

I hope when he goes back down in a couple weeks, he can get past the closed gates. It looks like he'll leave just before the start of a High School/College Baseball Invitational at the complex, brought to you by RussMatt Baseball. - link
