LAST GAME: The New Britain Rock Cats pounded out a season-high 18 hits and defeated the Binghamton Mets by an 11-2 score Wednesday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. B-Mets starter Zack Wheeler matched a career-high with ten hits allowed in his second straight loss. The righty was tagged for six runs (five earned) over four innings. The B-Mets managed their only offense in the fourth, scoring two runs on four singles. Jefry Marte and Dustin Martin provided RBI singles. After the B-Mets cut the deficit to two in the fourth, the Rock Cats took full control, scoring seven unanswered runs on eleven hits over the final six innings. Binghamton managed just two runners and went hitless over their last five turns at bat. Frank Francisco allowed two runs on three hits while recording two outs in his first rehab appearance with Binghamton.

GAME ONE STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Cory Mazzoni (3-3, 3.50) makes his seventh start of the season and first since returning from a week-long stay on the disabled list with a laceration on his right thumb. Mazzoni suffered the loss in his last start on July 18 against the Trenton Thunder. The righty allowed two runs on three hits over five innings. He is making his first career start against the Portland Sea Dogs.

LHP Drake Britton (2-3, 4.75) makes his 10th start of the season with the Sea Dogs. He snapped a seven-game winless streak in his most recent start, defeating the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on July 21. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out a season-high eight over seven innings. Britton started the season with the Salem Red Sox (High-A), going 3-5 with a 5.80 ERA in 10 games (eight starts). He was promoted to the Sea Dogs in early June. Selected by the Red Sox in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft out of Tomball HS (TX), he is in his fifth season with the Red Sox organization. The Texan underwent Tommy John surgery in 2008.

GAME TWO STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Darin Gorski (5-5, 4.13) makes his 18th start of the season and fourth appearance against the Portland Sea Dogs. Gorski lost his most recent start against the Bowie Baysox on July 22. He allowed four runs on five hits over four innings and issued a career-high six walks.

RHP Mike MacDonald (1-0, 4.50) makes his fourth start with the Portland Sea Dogs after signing with the Boston Red Sox earlier this month out of the Atlantic League (Somerset Patriots). MacDonald is the first native of Maine to pitch for the Sea Dogs. He allowed five runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings in a no-decision in his last start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on July 22. Selected by Toronto in the 15th round in the 2004 draft, MacDonald spent six years in the Blue Jays system. He has also pitched in the Angels and Giants organizations. He went 3-4 with a 3.60 ERA in 13 starts with the Patriots

BACK IN TOWN: The B-Mets return to the Southern Tier after going 3-4 on a week-long roadtrip. They dropped three of four to the Bowie Baysox before taking two of three from the New Britain Rock Cats. It was their first losing roadtrip since late May when they went 3-4 against the Portland Sea Dogs and Rock Cats.

OPPONENT HIT PARADE: The Rock Cats collected 18 hits against the B-Mets yesterday afternoon, the second-most allowed by Binghamton this season. New Hampshire pounded out 20 hits on June 17. The B-Mets have allowed 15 hits or more seven times this season, matching their total from last season.

AGAINST THE SEA DOGS: The B-Mets have gone 8-3 against Portland this season, including a 4-0 mark at home. The B-Mets and Sea Dogs matched up 11 times in the first 41 games of the season, but have not met since May 20. The B-Mets swept Portland in a four-game series in their last visit to the Southern Tier in late April. Binghamton has hit .302 as a team against the Sea Dogs and compiled a 3.15 staff ERA.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their series tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the ball against RHP Jeremy Kehrt.
