Excellent Greg Peavey Outing

The Binghamton Mets slugged four homers and Greg Peavey allowedone unearned run over seven innings in an 8-1 win over the New Britain RockCats Monday night at New Britain Stadium. The four bombs matched a season-high andthe victory was Peavey’s first since May 20.

Forthe first time in five games, the B-Mets drew first blood. Dykstra led off thesecond inning by blasting his first home run of the night to right againststarter Aaron Thompson.

Binghamtonkept the rally alive by loading the bases on two singles and a missed tag errorby third baseman Deibinson Romero. Juan Lagares doubled the lead with a sac flyto center and Reese Havens capped the inning with an RBI single to right.

TheRock Cats took advantage of two errors to get on the board in the second. Joe Bensonreached to start the inning when Sean Kazmar booted a groundball at short.Benson stole second and moved to third when catcher Francisco Pena’s throwsailed into center. Romero quickly brought him home with a sac fly to center.

Dykstrastruck again in the third. The designated hitter deposited a 1-2 pitch fromThompson over the left center field wall to give Binghamton a 4-1 lead. It was Dykstra’sthird-career multi-homer game and first with the B-Mets.

Thelead was more than enough for Peavey. The righty shook off three errors behindhim and motored through seven innings, matching his longest outing of theseason. He allowed just three singles and struck out three to snap his personalnine-game winless streak.

Binghamtonkept the power going and added insurance against reliever Edgar Ibarra. Afterwatching Ibarra retire six straight, Eric Campbell led off the eighth with atowering home run to left. Ibarra walked Dykstra and paid for it when SeanKazmar lined a two-run homer to left.

DakotaWatts came in and recorded the final two outs of the inning. Binghamton addedone more run without a hit in the ninth.

TheB-Mets bullpen secured the win with two scoreless innings. C.J. Nitkowskistruck out three in a shutout eighth and Ryan Fraser supplied a perfect ninth.

TheB-Mets (47-54) continue their series against the New Britain Rock Cats Tuesdaynight at 7:05 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the hill against RHP Blake Martin. The HorizonsFederal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
