Mets losing streak, Tim
and Josh on the wrong page, Wheeler, Familia, Frank2…
You’re not going to
hear much out of Sandy Alderson for awhile. No
talk about selling or buying. MetsBlog is reporting that Byrdak and Hairston
could be moved which would be good for both their careers. Tim could get down
to pitching a normal amount of outings and Scott (it is Scott, right?) might
get a chance at a ring.
The Mets will move on
to the central issue… signing David Wright. I
think this will happen sooner than later. The ship is listing and what better
way to show the fans that there is a future plan to win after the all-star
break.
This will create an
issue for Wilmer Flores that could bring two
quality players to the team. Add Byrdak (am I spelling that correct?) and
Hairston and there could be four AA-AAA-MLB players on the 40-man… like,
tomorrow.
The positions that need
upgrading remain… another catcher, second base, left-handed rotation pitcher,
centerfield, loads of relievers.
(Note: I have
permanently placed Jordany Valdespin in RF and Jason Bay in LF for opening day 2013)
Neither Hairston or
Byrdak will get the Mets a superstar, but these could easily secure two future
members of the pen. Right now, I only see Josh Edgin,
Jeurys Familia, and Jenrry Mejia in that
pen. This might not be a bad time to deal off Bobby Parnell either and clear
his baseball head of all the Mets shit that has been placed in it.
Yes, there are other
pitchers with fixed 2013 contracts, but all bets are off right now.
The rotation looks to
be set: Johan
Santana, RA Dickey, Jon Niese, Matt Harvey, and Dillon
Gee. Chris Young could be back if either
Gee or Santana doesn’t heal. 2014 is Zack Wheeler’s year,
followed in 2015 by any combination of Michael Fulmer
and Rafael Montero. Domingo
Tapia will go to the pen as early as 2014, maybe as the closer.
The 2013 Mets could
easily make the playoffs with a few more top players and the luck of the draw
when it comes to injuries. There is very little depth on this team and it can
all fall apart quickly (as we have learned the past three years) if the doctors
get involved.
But first, sign David.
Then, decide if Dickey
is part of the long range plan. If he is, sign him.
Then, send Lucas Duda, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Matt den dekker, Collin McHugh,
Elvin Ramirez, and Reese Havens to a
serious winter assignment, regardless of their age. They all need work playing
somewhere every day.Send them to Venezuela if they are too old for the other
leagues. That country will take anyone.
Back to Dickey, Byrdak,
Parnell, and Valdespin…
These are the four
legitimate major league players that can help a team today win a
pennant. You can throw in Daniel Murphy if it’s
an American League team. Each one of them is expendable in the long run and
could immediately change the future of this team. Overnight, you could have a
new, full time CFer, 2Bman, LHSP, RHSP, and catcher. I’d like to keep Spin and
RA, but it’s Sandy’s call, not mine.
This is the time of the
year that the Mets got Zack Wheeler.
