A long night at Louisville Slugger Field didn't end well for the Buffalo Bisons.
Neftali Soto's two-run home run after a two-hour rain delay propelled the Bats to a 3-1 victory over the Herd in series finale from Kentucky on Friday. Louisville won three of four in the series and handed Buffalo their seventh loss in the last eight games.
The Bisons will now travel to Indianapolis for a four-game series against the Indians -their final non-divisional foe of the 2012 season.
Rains halted the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score knotted at one. The clubs then sat for two hours and five minutes, or just seven minutes shorter than the total game time from the night: two hours and 12 minutes.
When play resumed, Louisville broke the 1-1 tied in the bottom of the sixth inning. Henry Rodriguez drew a one-out walk before Soto lined an 0-1 offering from Dylan Owen over the right field wall. The two-run advantage was all the offense the Bats would need in a game that saw each club collect only five hits each.
The Bisons beat the rain drops in the fifth inning for their lone run of the game. Lucas Duda singled to lead off the frame and advanced to second on Valentino Pascucci's walk. Bats' starter Tim Gustafson then threw away Matt Tuiasosopo's bunt attempt, allowing Duda to score.
Owen suffered the defeat, allowing two runs in two innings of work. Just promoted from Double-A Binghamton, Robert Carson made his Triple-A debut with two innings of shutout relief. Garrett Olson allowed an unearned run in four innings, but couldn't continue after the delay.
BISONS NOTES: Mike Nickeas went 0-3 in his first game with the Bisons this year. He's the only player to have appeared in a game in all four years of the club's affiliation with the Mets...Lucas Duda went 1-4 in his second game with the club this year...Before the game, RHP Gonzalez Germen was transferred to Binghamton and C Jean Luc Blaquiere was placed on the disabled list.
