He's a quality player but not enough power nor speed for his size, plus he's had issues staying healthy. I don't know much about who the Astros gave up but it's disconcerting to see us being outspent by the poorest franchise in baseball.

It indicates that the Rockies didn't have much interest in Ike. The gist of this deal is that it frees up money for Colorado to sign Morneau. Lyles has been a bust and Barnes is 4th/5th OF at best. Interesting to see another salary dump trade-seems to be the trend developing this winter.

On another note, I worry about 'ole Matt at Metsblog. It's only December but a bit of paranoia seems be creeping into his posts. I hate to see what happens if Granderson and Cruz sign elsewhere.

Reese - I hate to disagree with you, but I do not think Fowler is a quality payer. He is a sub par fielder and if you look at his away splits, (career .241 avg. .694 OPS)they are weak. Last year even worse - .214 avg & .678 OPS. We weren't outspent for him, we didn't bid on him. Colorado wanted to get rid of him and his $7.35 mil salary, and that's why they accepted crap in return. You know, $7.35 million is not alot to pay for a quality player, so if he were a quality player he would have been in greater demand.

From the Mets standpoint, this deal simply reinforces the fact that CarGo (and probably Tulo) is not being traded this year. We fans need to move on to more realistic acquisitions.

Herb -

You and I seem to be the last two people on earth still giving Alderson the benefit of the doubt.

Even Kevin Burkhardt is going to turn on him tonight on the Mets Hot Stove.

Is it time to reconsider our position?
