FLASH: Colorado Rockies offer MIchael Cuddyer Qualifying Offer

    The Rockies announced that they have extended a one-year, $15.3MM qualifying offer to Michael Cuddyer.

     Needless to say, this move comes as a bit of a surprise. The 35-year-old Cuddyer will turn 36 next March and played in just 49 games this season. While his production over the past two seasons has been unquestionably outstanding when healthy — he’s batted .331/.385/.543 and captured the 2013 NL Batting Title — Cuddyer was not seen as a candidate for a QO due to his injuries and age.

Unbelievable....

I think this pretty much means that we will be trading for Cespedes, Bruce, or Gordon.

He has to accept this. no? it kills any leverage in the market.

Yep this forces his hand. He has to accept

The Mets or any other team shouldn't offer any better. I wouldn't pay him that and lose a the #15 pick in the draft.

15.3 Million for Cuddyer--WOW! I'm happy....Mets dodged a bullet, I think...still...15.3 Million for Michael Cuddyer!!!

The important thing to walk away with here is how much the game is monetarily getting out of control and the importance of this team to develop from within.

I wanted Cuddyer very much, but we can't sign him AND give up the pick.

If he accepts the offer, can he be traded? If so, he might still be a target.

Bill -

Yes, I believe he can still be traded

Rockies lost 96 games with a top heavy, brittle, roster.

this move either means they're looking to retain assets for trade, or they really are a 96 loss operation

@Eraff

This move tells me only 1 thing...

Despite the Rockies just hiring a new GM....the owner Dick Monfort, who is stubbornly loyal to his Rockies players, is still managing this team.

Any sane General Manager would not have made this move
