*** Kingsport's victory on 8/10 marked the 1200th win in Kingsport's history***

3 stars of the week:

Bronze Star: Dan Hoy, 2B. Hoy swung a pretty good bat over the course of the week, given his struggles at the plate this season. The Princeton University grad collected his first professional home run and his first professional triple on 8/9 and 8/10. Although he only collected 3 hits in 5 games, he was able to bring his average up 10 points from .159 to .169. His success earned him more playing time as a result.

Silver Star: Christian James, RHP. The New York Mets' 14th Rounder has had a great season for the KMets this year, although he has had a couple poor outings. He is this week's silver star for 2 reasons: 1) his success and 2) his outing on 8/12 (final line above). To this point in the season he has logged 42.2 IP, 18ER, 14BB, and 43Ks, keeping in mind he was just in high school last spring. If he keeps this season up, I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it to Brooklyn before the end of the season.

Gold Star: Hansel Moreno, SS. This week's gold star was a toss up between Moreno and Rigoberto Terrazas. Moreno wins it this week because he increased his average while Terrazas's average decreased. Moreno played in 5 of the 6 games and in 4 of those he logged multi-hit performances. His average went from the mid .220s to right around .250. In thw week he compiled 7 hits in 18 ABs which is around a .389 clip. Moreno has had a high K rate this season, but only struck out 4 times total this week. He also launched his 3rd Home Run this season.

Nice week for Kingsport - 5-1 every week will lead to lots of smiling faces.

There have been some very good performers for the K Mets this year.

It would be very interesting to hear who your favorite K Mets are and why so.

Tom- I will do that in the season recap. And yes it was a nice week

What puzzles me is some Brooklyn guys massively struggle, yet, they do not demote them to an easier league and promote a strong Kingsporter to Brooklyn.

Two Examples:

3B Rigo Terrazas is hitting .363 in 49 Kingsport games, while Brooklyn's Carl Stajduhar is "hitting" .152 with 52 Ks in 105 at bats, and is 2 for 30 with 18 Ks in his last 10 games. Switching the two seems SO obvious a choice to me.

Cyclone SS Dylan Snypes has hit .167 in 16 games with 23 Ks - why not swap him with K Mets' Wagner Lagrange, who is hitting .325 in 37 games, with just 14 Ks?

Thomas-

I can see another side to this (not that SA does). Promotion might indeed be a psychological lift as well as an important technical challenge for Lagrange & Terrazas, granted. But is there any consideration for team morale if KP is in a pennant race and Brooklyn is out of it. Is there a role for organizational support for the rest of the guys? Heck, this armchair GM might even consider rehabbing Jose in KP rather than Brooklyn, PSL or LV for an important series. Do you see any logic in that?

Tom Brennan said...

Hobie, good point, but I think Kingsport is a long shot for the playoffs there.

They are 4.5 games behind the two teams currently tied for second place (their division's last playoff spot) and would have to vault over both of them in what I believe is their last 14 games.

Not impossible but unlikely.

So I would promote those two guys - they already promoted Jeremy Vasquez to play 1B in Brooklyn and he has done very well in that short span of games. Heck, a demotion might get Stajduhar and Snypes kick-started too against easier pitching (big difference between the 2 leagues), and a change of scenery.

Hobie- Kingsport never gets any rehabbers. All the rehab guys go to either PSL or Brooklyn. So I highly doubt it.

Tom- I wouldn't be against that. Personally I thought Snypes and Stajduhar would start in Kingsport this year.

Thomas & Clay-

Yes I agree that moving promising & successful players up is an important developmental logistic. And KP is not exactly a transportation hub for a 1 or 2G rehab outing.

Yet there has been much criticism on how the FO treats its MiL franchises. One myth is that Norfolk was "lost" because Omar NEVER visited. (I don't believe that, BTW. Ken Young had bought 3 other Baltimore farm teams in 2005-6 and capped it with an Oriole AAA PDC in Tidewater.) So paying attention to KP team success might not be the worst idea. Would those kids (& fans) benefit from a cameo by Jose or Thor? idk, but can't help think about it.

Kingsport would love a visit from Tebow.
