Minor League Baseball announced on Monday that St. Lucie Mets first baseman Peter Alonso was chosen as the Florida State League Player of the Month for July.
Alonso led the FSL in hits (39), runs (20), extra-base hits (15), total bases (70), home runs (eight) and RBI (26) while batting .336 over 29 games. Alonso had 13 multi-hit games in July and posted separate hitting streaks of seven and eight games. He hit two grand slams in the month and was hit by a pitch for force home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth against Bradenton on July 28.
Alonso was named FSL Player of the Week for the period of July 17-23.
Alonso, 22, was selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2016 draft out of Florida. The former Gator is in his first year with the St. Lucie Mets. He missed nearly two months early in the season after suffering a broken hand in the first week.

Peter's problem is the fact that he doesn't have a second position to play.
