Hot Stove - 11-17-17

John Hart has stepped down as Director of Baseball Operations for the Atlanta Braves.

Boy, it's a holy hot mess over there...

Forner 1st Rd. phenom RHP (11th overall - 2010), Deck McGuire, has signed a minor league contract with the team that originally drafted him, Toronto.

McGuire is a perfect example of how a 'can't miss' draft pick... err... misses. I loved this guy coming out of GT and thought he would be an SP1 someday for the Blue Jays. I, like most draft 'experts' were wrong here.

The Dodgers are signing former Yankees prospect, LHP Manny Banuelos, to a minor league deal.

Jon Heyman says that the Mets are taking a clser look at OF Lorenzo Cain

The Brewers drafted 'nobody' Cain in the 17th round of the 2004 draft, out of somewhere named Tallahassee Community College. Who scouts places like this? Did the car run out of gas on the way to Mobile? Anyway... Cain turns 32 in April and bats right, like Juan Lagares. He doesn't offer up as a platoon candidate with Lagares, but, if he could stay healthy, and repeat his 2017 stat line of 584-AB, .300/.363/.440/803, 15-HR, he could create a lethal outfield in the middle of Michael Conforto and Yoenes Cespedes.

A lethal Cain would be a welcome addition.

Banuelos was another guy talked about in awe and reverence - until he proved to be a lousy pitcher. Maybe LAD will fix him.

I actually had a Deck McGuire reference in my upcoming post tomorrow that I wrote yesterday. His last year's stat line is pretty impressive and could be a late bloomer. Why Sandy Alderson wasn't in on these types of guys...oh, nevermind!

OK, so maybe someone in the front office is reading Mack's Mets?!?

Two articles out today.....one discussing an overhaul/new approach to the health and conditioning folks and the other on an increased emphasis on playing good defense!

I am not sure what the heck is going on!
