Mack - Hot Stove - 11-19-17
The Seattle Mariners have acquired RHP Nick Rumbelow from the Yankees in exchange for LHP JP Sears and RHP Juan Then.
Rumbelow was recently dropped from the Yankees 40-man because they, one, needed to make room for the kids they are going to protect from the Rule 5 Draft, and two, he didn't make the cut as part of a very talented bullpen.
Sears and Then are low level prospects that, right now, look like a steal... but, come back in four years and we'll see if this was a good deal.
Ex-Met OF Kazuo Matsui is back to playing outfield for the team he started with, the Seibu Lions.
Ex-Met pitcher, Logan Verrett, has signed on with Korea's NC Dinos.
Don't laugh at these guys going overseas... this deal is worth $800K for the 2018 season.

Hammn...American players seeking deals overseas where they might get paid. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if the Mets looked overseas for talent, too?
Can't blame Verrett one little bit - and he is apt to be less homer-prone over there. Just figure out where the nearest bomb shelter is.
Reese can be our new international scouting chief. It would be a significant upgrade.
If the Mets signed an Eric Hosmer, they could trade Smith or send him back to AAA to raise his trade value - maybe he could be traded for a few top prospects at other positions a little further from the majors, as the Yanks just did in this trade.
Let me understand this:
The Yankees drop this guy, so you can have him for free. However, you choose to let him clear and then send two low level minors guys for him? And then I ask myself how the Yankees find these other GM's but the geniuses in Queens can't?
The Yankees did NOT drop him;they took him off the 40 and TRADED him. He was not "available for nothing".
Bill, in order to resign a player you took off the 40 man roster, doesn’t he have to clear waivers first? Isn’t that available for nothing?
