Tom Brennan - EXTREME METS MINORS OBSERVATIONS

Tom Brennan - EXTREME METS MINORS OBSERVATIONS

Just a few observations amongst the many things an idle fellow like myself could notice:

Las Vegas is 26-37 through Saturday, but is 25-18 in games in which their pitchers have allowed fewer than 10 runs.

I can just hear the manager in the clubhouse: "If we can just hold them under 10 runs, boys, we have a great shot at getting a W."  Before running to the underground bunker.

1-19 in games where they've allowed 10 or more plate-crossers, including losses allowing 17, 18, and 20 runs.

459 runs allowed in those 63 games. That's 7.29 runs allowed per game. 30% of the games, the 51s have surrendered 10 or more.  PTSD must be a real issue.

Another PCL team, but in a normal environment, Oklahoma City, has allowed just 222 runs (3.83 RPG) in 58 games.

Isn't Vegas a dandy place to pitch?  Do you think this team doesn't wish it was permanently located in OKC right now?

THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM

22year old pitcher for the DSL Mets, Juan Martinez, is in his 3rd season.

In his first 2 seasons, the righty threw 32 innings, allowed 35 runs, walked 30, hit 7 batters, and fanned just 15.  Ouch.

But the third time, so far, is the charm:

In 2018, 3.1 IP, 2 hits, 1 walk, 8 Ks.

Pitching like Pedro Martinez.

You might call it drastic improvement of the extreme kind.

Gotta love it...keep it up, Juan!  I'll be keeping an eye on the new-and-improved Senor Martinez.

Vegas allowed 10 again last night - now 1-20 in games in which they've surrendered 10 or more runs.
