My two main reasons that I personally would have waited with him longer to come up are Drew Smith and Corey Oswalt. Get them more innings. Either one can start or relieve. Even Robert Gsellman could use more innings. All three have experience in the bigs.
I just think that a callup should be deserving and timely.
Not handed out randomly because of depth need that actually does not really even exist here with the roster of pitchers that they have. Certainly there is not much at either Syracuse or Scranton for the Mets and Yankees pitching wise, probably because of the Covid 19 year off last season.
But rushing high prospect pitchers up before ready can be a big boo-boo I think. Hopefully lefty starter Thomas Szapucki does well. He easily could. It's just the principle of this type of move that I don't concur on.
High prospect starters to me are like a good wine. You have to be patient until they show that they are ready.

On Szapucki Callup.
Was he doing that great in Syracuse?
