NY Post: Mets close homestand with thud in sloppy loss to Phillies. “Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso combined for five of the team’s seven hits, as the Mets were held to two runs or fewer for the ninth time in 13 games as MLB’s 30th-ranked team in scoring. Over that stretch the Mets are 5-8, but have lost only one game in the NL East standings. The Mets lead the Nationals by four games.”
Mets.com:
Mets expect cold bats to be 'scorching' soon. “Even for a first-place team,
such offensive figures are hard to ignore. Eight weeks after their firing of
hitting coach Chili Davis, the Mets have posted nearly identical statistics
under his replacement, Hugh Quattlebaum. Some of that has been due to the fact
that they’ve played long stretches without multiple key offensive pieces. But
the rest has been because nearly every member of the starting lineup has
underperformed compared to previous career norms.”
Joel
Sherman NY Post: Glaring Mets issue keeping door open for rest of NL East. “The
Mets — even with the Phillies, Braves and Nationals winning on Sunday — still
lead the division by four games. They are still the only NL East team with a
winning record. But the pivot to their season is about their bats. If they hit,
they should win this division, probably comfortably considering they have the
most overall talent. But we have seen how they wouldn’t win it too by the way
they have left the door ajar, so far.”
Mets.com:
Stat of the day: “Corey Oswalt delivered four shutout innings in relief on
Sunday, matching his effort from an August 25 game against the Marlins last
summer. He became the first pitcher to provide multiple scoreless relief
appearances of at least four innings in his Mets career since Darren Oliver
accomplished it four times during the 2006 season.”

Post: Brandon Nimmo’s return to Mets appears imminent. If Nimmo indicates
he is ready, he will likely be activated for Tuesday’s game in Atlanta, manager
Luis Rojas said before the Mets’ 4-2 loss to the Phillies.
The Mets plan to have Jacob deGrom start three more games before the All-Star break:
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) June 27, 2021
-July 1, @ ATL
-July 6, vs. MIL
-July 11, vs. PIT
Assuming deGrom is named to the All-Star team, he would be limited to one inning per MLB rules if he decides he wants to pitch.
#Mets have re-signed OF Mason Williams to a minor league contract.

Marcus Stroman is leaving the Mets for a few days following the recent passing of his grandmother. Stroman won't travel to Washington with the team, but he should return in time to make his next start during next weekend's Subway Series.

New York Mets released Danny Muno on June 28, 2016.
2006 |
In his worst outing as a Met during two seasons with the
team, Pedro Martinez is routed by his former Red Sox teammates in his return
when the Mets drop a 10-2 decision. The Fenway crowd, who chanted,
"Pedro! Pedro!" before the game, showed their appreciation of the
Dominican's history as a Red Sox player with a standing ovation during
yesterday's video tribute which highlighted the right-hander's achievements
with Boston. |
2009 |
Mariano Rivera joins Trevor Hoffman in becoming only the
second pitcher to record 500 major league saves. The right-handed reliever,
who also registers his first RBI of his 15-year career, reaches the milestone
by getting the last four outs in the Yankees' 4-2 win over the Mets at Citi
Field. |
2011 |
After playing 299 games without a grand slam, the Mets hit
two bases full homers in the span of seven at-bats during their 14-3 rout of
Detroit at Comerica Park. Jason Bay breaks the nearly two-year drought with a
fourth-inning round-tripper, and Carlos Beltran goes deep, six batters later
in the fifth frame. |
2015 |
Steven Matz, who goes 3-for-3 at the plate, becomes the
first pitcher to drive in four runs in his major league debut, delivering a
two-run double in his first at-bat and then driving in another pair with a
sixth-inning single. The Mets' 24 year-old rookie right-hander from Stony
Brook, NY, gives up five hits and two runs in 7.2 innings en route to earning
his first victory when the Mets beat Cincinnati at Citi Field, 7-2. |
1987: Pinch hitter Greg
Gross breaks up Ron Darling's no-hitter with a leadoff triple in the
8th inning and two Phillie rallies beat the Mets,
5 - 4.
1994: Mets
P Dwight Gooden receives a 60-day suspension for
violating terms of his drug aftercare program
2010: Edwin Rodriguez, who became the first Puerto Rican manager in major league history last week,
wins a game in front of his countrymen as the Marlins defeat the Mets,
10 - 3, at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the first major
league game played in the stadium since the MLB-owned Montreal Expos were forced to move a number of home
games there in 2003 and 2004.
A crown of more than 18,000 is on hand for the historic game. With Bobby Valentine turning down an offer to manage the
Marlins, Rodriguez will be confirmed as Florida's skipper for the remainder of
the season.

Let's hear it for power hitting Vientos and Cortes. The major league guys are sputtering by comparison.
I don't want to hear that the Mets bat could soon be scorching. Scorch, already.
The guys who went on the DL were slumping when they got hurt and are slumping since they came back. I think McNeil went 0 for the entire Philly series. Time for a new plan.
Omar Minaya loved Cortes and the Mets have drafted him multiple times. This is completely Omar’s guy.
They were better without the hitting coach last year. Sometimes, too much information when you’re hitting is no good. See the ball, hit the ball. Done.
Agreed Gus. Lindor's and McNeil's best at bats were after they fought about the "rat-coon". They were pissed at each other and didn't think.
