NY
Post: Jacob deGrom puts Mets’ injury concerns to rest in Game 1 win over Braves.
“Most importantly to the Mets, for the first time in three starts their ace
finished his performance without some kind of discomfort.”
Mets.com:
deGrom's ERA at 0.50 after baffling Braves. Ace runs scoreless streak to 30
IP, records 12th straight start with one or zero earned runs.” The only hit off deGrom came on a Kevan Smith fly ball to
left-center that dropped between outfielders Dominic Smith and Albert
Almora Jr., who both had a play on the ball.”
Mets.com:
Stat of the day - “In delivering five shutout innings in Game 1 of the
Mets' doubleheader on Monday, Jacob deGrom submitted his 12th straight start
with zero or one earned runs. That snapped a tie with Bob Gibson for the most
consecutively in a single season in Major League history by a traditional
starting pitcher (since earned runs became an official stat in 1912).”
NY
Post: Dominic Smith wouldn’t let Jacob deGrom’s gem be wasted. “Smith lined
the sixth pitch of an at-bat into the right-field corner for a two-out
bases-clearing three-run double that provided the necessary insurance Monday in
a 4-2 victory over the Braves.”
NY
Post: Mets’ Jacob deGrom first pitcher checked for foreign substances under new
MLB protocol. “After deGrom retired the Braves in order in the top of the
first inning, three umpires, including home plate’s Ben May and crew chief Ron
Kulpa, cornered him before he reached the dugout to look at his glove, hat and
belt. The Citi Field crowd booed and then cheered when deGrom was cleared.”
SNY.TV:
Mets' Jacob deGrom passes inspection for sticky substances. The umpires
checked deGrom after the first and fifth innings. Jacob deGrom vs. the Braves today: SEND 'EM ALL HOME! 1. 2. 3. "I felt pretty good"

double, 1 walk, 1 K; Francisco Lindor SS 0 for 3; Jeff McNeil 2B 0 for 3; Pete Alonso 1B 2 for 3, 1 K; Dominic Smith LF 2 for 3; Jerad Eickhoff 4 innings, no
runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, 3 Ks; Miguel Castro (L, 2-2), 1 inning, 1
run, 1 hit, HR; Sean
Reid-Foley 1 inning, no runs, no hits, 1 K; Trevor
May 1
inning, no runs, no hits, 2 Ks;
SNY.TV:
Mets takeaways from Monday's 1-0 loss in Game 2 to Braves, including poor
baserunning. Jerad Eickhoff threw four scoreless innings and allowed just three
hits.
NY
Post: Jerad Eickhoff makes rotation case as Mets settle for split with Braves.
“There were no clean innings, as Eickhoff worked out of a bases-loaded one-out
jam in the first and stranded one runner apiece in the second, third and
fourth.”
Mets.com:
Eickhoff steady on hill for banged-up Mets. “Rojas asked Miguel Castro to
enter for the fifth. Castro promptly served up a Ronald Acuña Jr. solo homer,
which proved to be the difference.”

Avenue: Final score: Braves 1, Mets 0—How not to run the bases.
Metstradamus:
“Back in the 2nd inning with the score still 0-0, Pete Alonso was thrown out at
third as he was trying to go first to third on a hit by Dom Smith…Jonathan

Cool stat from @KevinMcAlpin: Ian Anderson is the first native New Yorker to beat both the Yankees and Mets in the same season in NYC.

Q: Is there an amount of time you could be out that would stop you from swinging at the first pitch as soon as you come back?

Jeff McNeil: "Probably not." pic.twitter.com/6ubzJ8SnCO
SNY,com:
Mets' Jonathan Villar exits game [2] vs. Braves in sixth inning with right calf
tightness. Villar grimaced rounding first after hitting a double. Per Luis
Rojas: "’It's the same leg he had the hamstring issue a couple weeks ago.
He's getting treated, he's going to be reevaluated tomorrow and we'll see how
he's doing.’"
Mets.com:
“…an MRI revealed that Joey
Lucchesi has a significant UCL tear in his left elbow. Tommy John surgery
is a realistic option for Lucchesi, who will receive a second opinion before
making that decision.”
Mets.com:
Gsellman, Familia to IL; “Gsellman
landed on the injured list with what a source said is a torn right last muscle,
which will prevent him from throwing a baseball for six to eight weeks. Familia
went on the IL between games of a doubleheader due to a right hip impingement.”

deGrom 0.50 ERA is 4 earned runs in 72 innings, and 27 hits in 72 innings, which averages out to 3.4 hits per 9. Crazy. Hard to believe that in 2016, he allowed 142 hits in 148 innings, but at this years pace, It would be 55 in 148 innings.
His 7-2, in comparison to prior seasons, is great. Just 3 NDs is good too.
Incredibly, he is tied for 8th best in MLB wins, with 5 of the 8 guys ahead of him having ERAs above 3. I hope he stays healthy enough to win 20 this year.
Let's hope Eickhoff can keep it up.
You have to hope Joey wasn't trying to over throw to impress the many doubters, leading to his elbow problem.
He had to feel like every start was an audition. "And you, sir, what's your name again?"
Can anyone name any Mets pitchers who missed time with the Mets from 1962 thru 2010 with lat issues? Another epidemic these days.
Lots of good points Tom. It will be very interesting to see how the Mets fill out their staff.
