Starting for the Mets tonight is Tylor Megill - let's run it down:
8th rounder in 2018, 230th overall.
Puzzler. Mets solved the puzzle - they finally picked him.
But heck, they waited until Round 13 once upon a time to pick Daniel Murphy - and he sure did all right.
Nice 2018 Brooklyn debut.
2019, spanned Columbia, St Lucie and a bit of Binghamton - pitched very well.
2020 in a very crowded town named COVIDSVILLE.
2021, dominating hitters in AA and AAA.
187 Ks in 140 career innings.
59 Ks in 40 innings this year.
Walks?
2018, one every 2 innings, but this year, just 12 in 40 innings.
Exclude his first inning in AA and in AAA this year, and it is just 7 walks in 38 innings. He is no Wild Thing.
A mere 45 innings total in AA and AAA in his career.
By comparison:
Jake deGrom - 174 innings in AA and AAA.
Matt Harvey - 200 innings in AA and AAA
Noah Syndergaard - 217 innings in AA and AAA
Steve Matz - 187 innings in AA and AAA
Zack Wheeler - 223 innings in AA and AAA
So, for Tylor, this is, by comparison to the most notable starting pitcher promotions for the Mets over the past 10 years, quite the accelerated challenge.
It is the product of two things:
1) a billion Mets' pitchers' injuries. Exact # unclear, as my tabulator exploded.
2) no competition in the Mets minors from a pitching quality standpoint.
Of course, Joe Nuxhall debuted at age 15, and went on to win 135 games, so "arriving early" is relative.
Listed at 6'7", 230 - but his brother Trevor Megill, who briefly pitched for the Cubs this year, is bigger.
Said to throw 94-96. I think the gun will have him up above that on a number of pitches tonight, but we'll see.
# 1 - that's me.
I think I was touting Megill before anyone else, kinda like I did with Jeff McNeil.
All said, I would expect 4-5 innings out of the big dude tonight. Unless he's causing and the Mets' bats finally show up.
May it be the start of a long, successful major league career.

Just don't get hurt
I think this is all because they switched the DL to the IL. We need to change it back. I remember Spahn and Sain and pray for rain so now we have DeGrom and Megill and run for the hills.....what do you think?
Gary, I like it. I want my DL back. Are the Hills you refer to in Taiwan - err, I mean Taijuan?
Mack, if he gets hurt, too, then I'm next up, then you are, so keep your phone charged.
