LAKEWOOD, NJ (August 23, 2022) – The Cyclones opened their series down the shore with a 7-0 win over the BlueClaws on Tuesday night. Keyshawn Askew (1-0) and Jeffrey Colon combined on a three-hit shutout on the mound while Jose Peroza went 3-for-4 and is now batting .391 (25-64) during the month of August. The win, coupled with a Hudson Valley Renegades loss, moves Brooklyn within half a game of first place in the SAL Northern Division.

After a scoreless first, Brooklyn opened up the scoring in the top of the second after Jaylen Palmer had a two-out double and Shervyen Newton followed with a two-run blast on the first pitch he saw to give Brooklyn an early 2-0 lead.

Brooklyn added to their lead thanks to a defensive miscue from the BlueClaws in the sixth. JT Schwartz and Jose Peroza had back-to-back singles to start the frame and, after Stanley Consuegra popped out on the infield for the first out, Jose Mena hit a ground ball to second baseman Luis Garcia who tried to turn two, but his throw to second was wild and allowed Schwartz to score and make it 3-0.

That was more than enough offense for Brooklyn as Keyshawn Askew was dominant over his 6.0 innings on the mound scattering two walks and three hits while striking out eight and picking off two of the base runners he allowed. He turned the ball over to Jeffrey Colon who closed out the shutout with three scoreless frames.

The Cyclones capped their scoring with a four-spot in the top of the ninth. Alex Ramirez had a two-RBI double and later scored on an RBI double from JT Schwartz Stanley Consuegra added an RBI groundout – that plated Schwartz – to make the final score 7-0.

The ‘Clones will look to make it two in a row on Wednesday evening when they send RHP Junior Santos to the mound. Game time is 7:05 PM.

Askew is a RED prospect, I'd say. High strikeouts.
