Okay, the 2-game series in the Bronx is over and we didn't even leave there with one win. Atlanta keeps winning and we can see them out of the corner of our right eye as we turn into the stretch of the year long run.
Pitching continues to be sketchy, which now has the addition of two bad outings in a row by Max. And hitting? Well, sometimes it looks like we don't even try to participate here.
Is that what's troubling you, bunky?
Well, I've always said "don't look back and don't look too far forward".
Looking back does no one any good, especially the players. The talent is there to win the whole magilla. What seems to be lacking lately is the confidence and determination to fight through the mental fog that comes all the time during a long season in a hot/wet summer.
Looking forward should be limited (for you fans too!) to one week at a time.

You all have all heard of Hall of Fame legend, pitcher Robert Moses “Lefty” Grove. Lefty won over 300 games and led the majors in ERA a record NINE TIMES.
In 1920, he was pitching for the Class D Martinsburg Mountaineers (WV). Grove’s 1.68 ERA that season caught the attention of scout Jack Dunn, the same Jack Dunn that previously signed Babe Ruth to his first pro contract.
Dunn turned the minor league Baltimore Orioles on to Grove and approached Mountaineer suits to arrange for a trade.
Well, seems Martinsburg’s home diamond was torn up by a storm and they lost their outfield fence and couldn’t afford to pay for a new one.
You probably figured out where I am going here.
Martinsburg agreed to sell a future 300+ win pitcher, hall of famer for an amount of money in the $3,000-3,500 range, which was the amount needed for a replacement in the outfield.
See?
You can agree to build a wall for a good return.

I'd trade Lefty Grove if they'd move the fences in at Citifield. He's 120 years old now, so my guess is he only throws as hard as Darin Ruf.
Tons of promotions. Connor Grey has had a not very good year, but if you are a pitcher, you have a chance to get called up, even if briefly. Unless your name is Bryce Montes de Strikeout.

What happened to the Banker? A lefty in the pen would be good and then poof he's gone... why? Also with Vientos I'm sure we don't need more offense with the big club so let's let him pound in Cuse'.......not!!! Guys why didn't they bring him up earlier before trading for Ruf???? any ideas.

Bill they needed fresh arms, so the Banker got written off, and others summoned - Ruf can't pitch every day, you know - maybe they sign him back in AAA? You'd think someone will if the Mets don't.
Gary, the Mets traded away an effective pitcher...JD Davis, who in his MLB career has thrown 2.2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, no walks, fanned 4. Never pitched for the Mets, though.
