Mark Vientos named International League Player of the Week

Syracuse Mets infielder Mark Vientos has been named International League Player of the Week for the week of August 15-21. Vientos hit .448 (13-for-29) with two RBIs, three home runs, two doubles, and nine runs scored at Charlotte. The 22-year-old tied his career high with four hits on Sunday.

Vientos has reached base in 24 of his last 25 games since July 10th with hits in 22 of those 25 games. During that stretch, Vientos is hitting .378 with 25 RBIs, seven home runs, seven doubles, 19 runs, and eight walks.

This is the fourth time this season that a Syracuse player has won a weekly league award. Daniel Palka was named the International League Player of the Week for the week of June 13-June 19, Travis Blankenhorn was the International League Player of the Week for June 20-June 26, and Gosuke Katoh was the International League Player of the Week for July 4-11.

As he watches Nastryzny and Grey and Butto and Fisher go the Big Dance, he waits in Syracuse for that phone to ring. How would you feel if in your last 68 games, you had 21 HRs, 58 RBIs and a .330 average and no one called? Hang in there, Mark. You'll be the next Pete Alonso with the bat, when the phone finally rings.

Where does he fit in? Vogelbach is the righty DH, Alonso is 1B and by all accounts he can’t play 3B. Buck values defense.

Vientos HR and 2 walks tonight. Someone said Vogelbach seemed to have a leg issue tonight. If sent to IL, call up Mark

I would give Vogelbach several days' rest. He is still hitting the ball, but that hamstring is impacting his ability to run - there were a few instances in recent games that it cost the Mets either a run or an out because Vogey was running at 50%. Heal him up for the stretch. Give Vientos a cup of coffee.

Baty’ cup of coffee isn’t working out too well after a great first game…
