Augusta 8, Savannah 6

A four-run sixth inning capped by a Wendell Fairley two-run home run to left-center field catapulted the Augusta GreenJackets to an, 8-6, win over Savannah Saturday night in front of 3,516 at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The GreenJackets were able to scratch out a win despite committing five errors in the game with four coming in one inning.

Jeurys Familia was sent to the mound to start the sixth for the Gnats, who led 6-4, and would retire the first man he faced before Augusta began its comeback. After Juan Perez popped out, Ehire Adrianza doubled down the left field line and ended Familia’s night. The right hander allowed five runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Manny Olivares (0-3) was summoned from the bullpen and issued a single to Charlie Culberson that scored Adrianza to pull the ‘Jackets within one. After he hit Johnny Monell at the plate, Olivares made a throwing error trying to pick him off at first that allowed Culberson to move to third.

With runners at the corners, Dom Duggan hit into a fielder’s choice to score Culberson as the tying run. Fairley followed Duggan with his second home run of the season.

Savannah plated five runs in the third thanks to four GreenJackets’ errors in the inning including two by Culberson. They added another run in the fourth when Josh Satin doubled with two away and Sean Ratliff tripled him in before being thrown out at the plate.

Satin, Ratliff and Wilmer Flores all had two hits apiece for the Gnats in a losing effort.
