B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

With the series even at a game apiece after two
well-played games by the B-Mets, the floodgates opened up,
allowing New Britain to tag Binghamton with 15 runs and 19
hits, both of which are season-highs for B-Mets’ pitchers. The
Rock Cats scored 13 runs from the third to the fifth inning en
route to a 15-7 win. Binghamton was first to jump on the
scoreboard, however. In the first inning, New Britain starter
Ryan Mullins put two on with one out on a hit by pitch and a
walk. Lucas Duda then lined a single through the left side to
drive in Emmanuel Garcia, who had been hit. Then, Shawn
Bowman
launched a two-run homer to centerfield to give the
B-Mets an early 3-0 lead. It was short-lived though, as starter
Jose Sanchez allowed eight runs in 3.1 innings on 10 hits to
take his sixth loss. Eric Brown followed Sanchez on the mound
and gave up four runs for the second straight outing before
being thrown out of the game for arguing balls and strikes. In
the sixth inning, Jake Eigsti roped his first AA home run to leftcenter,
which cut the margin to 14-5. It was all too little too
late though. Mullins was credited with the win going six innings
allowing five runs.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Mike Antonini will make
his eight start of the season tonight and second against the
Sea Dogs. In his last start, Antonini came out firing giving up
just one run in the first six innings May 27 against Connecticut,
but he left the game in the seventh inning after allowing a
run. Three more runs would score in the inning, giving him a
line of 6.1 innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits with a seasonbest
eight strikeouts. He is 4-1 with a 5.02 ERA in 37.2 innings.
Last season, Antonini made eight starts for the B-Mets
with a 1-3 record and 3.74 ERA in 45.2 innings, allowing 10
home runs. He was the Mets’ 18th-round selection in 2007
out of Georgia College & State University.

LHP Felix Doubront has seen the B-Mets frequently this season.
Tonight will be his fourth start against Binghamton.
Doubront has a 1-2 record against the B-Mets with an ERA of
3.77 in 14.1 innings. His last start came May 27 at New
Hampshire, in which he went a season-low 2.2 innings giving
up five runs on four hits with three walks. For the year he is 3-
2 with a 3.57 ERA in 40.1 innings. The Venezuelan-born lefty
is a member of Boston’s 40-man roster at age 21. He made
23 starts for Greenville (Low-A) with a 3.67 ERA in 115.1
innings striking out 118. Doubront ended the season with
Lancaster making three starts. He was signed by the Red Sox
as a 16-year old from Carabobo, Venezuela.

(AAA) before the game yesterday and threw two shutout innings
for the Bisons’ in his debut.
