B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

The B-Mets broke a three-game losing streak in
style last night by tying a season high with 10 runs in a 10-7
win over the Harrisburg Senators. Righty Eric Brown picked up
his first win of the season as a starter going 6.1 innings allowing
four runs on seven hits and tied a season high with six
strikeouts. He was supported by 15 hits from his offense,
including three-hit performances from Jose Coronado, Josh
Thole and Shawn Bowman. Coronado recorded hits in his first
three at-bats against Senators’ starter Justin Jones, driving in
three runs with the hits. Jones was roughed up for five runs in
four innings on nine hits. Bowman enjoyed a 3-4 day with two
runs scored and an RBI, while Thole put together a 3-5 game.
Nick Evans cracked his second homer with the B-Mets, a tworun
shot, in the fourth innings to help Binghamton out to a 5-2
lead, which they would not relinquish. Things got interesting in
the ninth, however, as Edgar Ramirez allowed three runs to
score and left with two outs in the frame with the tying run
coming to the plate in the form of cleanup-hitter Leonard
Davis. But, Roy Merritt entered a struck out Davis to secure
the final out and his 11th save in 15 chances.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Jenrry Mejia will make
his second start for the B-Mets since coming up from St. Lucie
(High-A) June 3. In his first AA start, Mejia shined, throwing
seven-shutout innings against Connecticut in the first game of
the doubleheader June 6. He struck out five in the outing and
gave up five hits and the B-Mets went on to win 1-0 in eight
innings. With St. Lucie (High-A), he dazzled with a 4-1 record
and 1.97 ERA in 50.1 innings. He was named to the Florida
State League Mid-Season All Star Team before being promoted
to Binghamton. Mejia is considered the seventh-best
prospect in the organization by Baseball America. The Dominican-
born righty has been rushed through the system, having
just 115 innings of professional experience entering 2009.
Last season, after making three starts in the Gulf Coast
League, Mejia pitched for Brooklyn (SS-A) and produced a
3.49 ERA and a 3-2 mark in 57 innings.

RHP Erik Arnesen will get the call for the Senators in the finale
of the three-game set. Last time out, Arnesen netted a nodecision
with a quality start of six innings June 5 allowing just
two runs on six hits with five strikeouts against New Britain.
He is 2-2 with a 3.48 ERA with Harrisburg covering 31 innings.
He opened the season with Potomac (High-A) going 4-1 with a
2.23 ERA in six starts spanning 32.1 innings. Arnesen spent
the bulk of 2008 with Hagerstown (Low-A), appearing in 25
games for the Suns with a 6-4 mark and a 3.97 ERA before
finishing the season with Potomac (High-A) where he went 4-3
with a 4.14 ERA. He was the Nationals 17th-round pick out of
Grove City College (PA).

also... in the press release I receive daily, tow of the next four games have Mets starting pitchers as: TBA.

It's draft/all-star break... anything can happen
