B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME: I

n a rain-shortened contest played in 7.5 innings,
the Harrisburg Senators ripped the B-Mets 16-2. It was the
largest margin of victory for an opposing team all year and
was the highest run total surrendered by the B-Mets since last
season. Starter Jenrry Mejia managed four innings of four-run
work and took the loss, handing things over to Nick Abel, who
gave up 10 runs on 11 hits in 2.1 innings. The Senators
knocked 18 hits in the game and the top six hitters in their
lineup clocked multi-hit days. Despite the drubbing, Emmanuel
Garcia returned to the lineup after a four-day hiatus
and went 2-4 with a double. Binghamton was sloppy in the
field committing three errors. Harrisburg starter Erik Arnesen
went six innings allowing one run on eight hits with six strikeouts
to pick up the win.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

LHP Mike Antonini will make
his 10th start of the season for the B-Mets tonight at Trenton.
Last time out, in Game 2 of the doubleheader with Connecticut
June 6, Antonini hurled a season-high seven innings allowing
two runs on seven hits without a walk to pick up a nodecision.
For the year, he is 4-1 with a 5.47 ERA in 49.1 innings.
Opposing hitters are batting .306 against Antonini with
runners is scoring position so far this season. Last season,
Antonini made eight starts for the B-Mets with a 1-3 record
and 3.74 ERA in 45.2 innings, allowing 10 home runs. He was
the Mets’ 18th-round selection in 2007 out of Georgia College
& State University.

RHP Ivan Nova gets the ball for the Thunder for his 10th start
of 2009. His last came June 6 at Portland when he threw five
innings allowing just one run on five hits, but walked three to
take a no-decision. For the year, he is 4-3 with a 3.12 ERA
over 52 innings. Oddly enough, right-handed hitters bat .327
against Nova, but lefties hit just .207. Finished second in the
Florida State League in innings pitched in 2008 with Tampa
(High-A) netting 148.2. He carried a record of 8-13 and an
ERA of 4.36 last season and led the league in losses. Despite
being taken by San Diego in last year’s Rule V draft, Nova was
returned to the Yankees system at the conclusion of Spring
Training. Signed as a 17-year old by the Yankees out of the
Dominican Republic, 7/15/04.

TEJADA STREAKING AT THE PLATE:

Yesterday, Ruben Tejada
managed a 2-3 day at the plate to raise his average to .285.
The performance upped his hitting streak to 10 games, which
is the longest current streak in the Eastern League. He is
hitting .353 (12-34) during the stretch of 10 games and has
raised his batting average 15 points. Last year, Tejada batted
just .229 in 131 games with St. Lucie (High-A). He has already
equaled his home run total from a year ago with two.
