Draft: Thoughts om today's BA Mock Draft

Jim Callis of Baseball America came out with his 4th and final mock draft early this morning and you can see it here.

There have been a ton of changes made. The biggest difference is that Callis has USC short-stop, Grant Green falling out of the first round completely. Green has been heavily tied to the Royals at #12 and that is where John has pegged him. Green's bonus demands are likely very high, but I still cannot envision a scenario where Green falls that far. Another surprise is Mike Minor being projected to go #8 to the Reds. Minor is a guy who is almost certainly going to be over-drafted since his talent is that of about a 2nd round player. This is because of his fastball which has lost velocity and is now fringy, though he does have an excellent changeup. I was also surprised to see Callis pick LHP, Rex Brothers to go to the Tigers at #9. Jacob Turner (HS right-hander) has been considered close to a lock for the Tigers the past couple weeks since word was the Tigers would be willing to meet Turner's bonus demands. Brothers has an electric fastball and plus slider, but has some control and mechanical issues and I see him as a reliever down the road.Word is that most players announced their bonus demands to teams interested yesterday and they were significantly higher than expected. This is likely the culprit of the anticipated falling of both Green and Turner. Many other high school players could fall some as well, which is making this one of the most difficult drafts to project.
