Thoughts On Mets Picks: Jack Flynn

Hello Mack,

I'm expecting the Mets to do something similar to what they did in 2006, another year where they did not have a pick until the second round.

The Mets picked Kevin Mulvey out of Villanova, a starter with three years of college experience. Mulvey, being more polished then your typical high school starter, moved just quickly enough through the low minors to get the "Prospect" stamp attached, then was dealt to Minnesota as part of the Johan Santana trade.

I don't expect to see a shortstop or a first baseman taken in the first five rounds, lest it be taken as a sign they don't have faith in last year's first round picks (Reese Havens and Ike Davis).

I also don't expect the Mets to draft anyone with "signability concerns," as the Wilpons have shown great reluctance to pay beyond slot recommendations since Scott Kazmir was picked in 2002.

See you tonight!

JACK
