Bisons’ Coach Bobby Malek Becomes Hitting Coach for Kingsport Mets

The Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, today announced that Coach Bobby Malek has been selected by New York to be the Hitting Coach for the rookie-level Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League.

His new coaching assignment begins immediately.

Malek, 27, was in his first season as a Bisons coach and only his first full season as a coach at any level. The former outfielder retired from the game as a player in May of 2008. He then served on the coaching staff with the Mets Gulf Coast League team.

Malek began his baseball career after being selected in the 4th round of the 2002 draft by the Mets out of Michigan State University. He made it as high as Triple-A, playing 18 games with the Norfolk Tides during the 2006 season.
