GreenJackets 6, Gnats 2

A trio of two-run innings from the Augusta GreenJackets ended a three-game winning streak for the Savannah Sand Gnats as Augusta prevailed, 6-2, in front of 1,116 fans Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. Back-to-back doubles from Charlie Culberson and Matt Klimas in the second inning put the GreenJackets on the board and Ben Woodbury added a run-scoring single to make it, 2-0. Jean Luc Blaquiere’s solo home run in the bottom of the second cut the lead in half but a Juan Perez sacrifice fly and Ehire Adrianza’s suicide squeeze in the third upped Augusta’s lead to, 4-1. The Sand Gnats countered with an RBI-single from Sean Ratliff in the bottom of the third but it would be the last run Savannah would score in the contest. They stranded a total of 10 men on the bases. Robert Carson (3-5) suffered his team-leading fifth loss and his third loss of the year to Augusta. He lasted five innings allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Aaron King (3-3) went five innings allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts for his second consecutive win against the Sand Gnats. The Sand Gnats can still get their second series win in a row with a win in the rubber match tomorrow afternoon with RHP Kyle Allen (3-2, 4.70) facing LHPAri Ronick (3-3, 3.33).
