They called up Fernando Nieve and claimed a lefty with a 10.8 ERA off waivers from San Fran. The only logic I see to not calling up Dessens is that they intend to move Redding to the pen depending on tonight's start and want to have a potential starter for the next go through of the rotation. Not sure why Figueroa wouldn't have been the choice if that's the plan, however, since Nieve isn't pitching any better than him at AAA. Nieve pitched 6 innings on Wednesday, so he most likely needs a couple more days rest before he can pitch anyway. Definitely wasn't expecting this move.

In typical Mets fashion, they are rushing Nieve, who should stay in AAA all season.
