B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

The B-Mets went into the All-Star break on a high
note with a 14-1 drubbing of the New Britain Rock Cats on
Monday at New Britain Stadium. The run-scoring came early
and often in the first two innings as the B-Mets put up a six
spot in the first and five more runs in the second. Binghamton
rapped four doubles in the first inning of starter Cole DeVries
and proceeded to knock him out of the game in the second
frame after allowing 10 runs in 1.1 innings. After going 4-6 on
Sunday, Ruben Tejada came back with a 3-4 showing Monday
with a double and three RBIs. Josh Petersen also smacked
three hits in six turns at bat to raise his average to .318. Brad
Holt didn’t need much run support, however. Holt produced
his best start in a Binghamton uniform to date with seven,
scoreless innings allowing just four hits and a walk with seven
strikeouts. The 14 runs were a season high for the B-Mets and
they came a day after Binghamton had scored 11 runs the
previous day.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Dylan Owen will look to
continue his roll on the mound tonight against Erie. Owen
combined with two other pitchers to shutout the SeaWolves 4-
0 July 4. He fired six scoreless innings in that start. His last go
around came July 9 at Portland when he threw seven innings
allowing one unearned run for his second straight win. He has
not allowed an earned run in his last 21.2 innings. For the
year, he is 2-5 with a 4.97 ERA in 76 innings. Since returning
to the rotation after a spell with St. Lucie (High-A) June 24, He
is 2-0 with a 1.05 ERA over 25.2 innings with 16 strikeouts.
He has lowered his ERA from a season-worst 6.97 to 4.97
entering play today. He tied for the Florida State League-lead
with 12 wins last season with St. Lucie. Owen was the Mets’
20th-round pick in 2007 out of Francis Marion University (SC).
LHP Jon Kibler will make his 18th start of the season tonight
at NYSEG Stadium against the B-Mets. He allowed three runs
on nine hits in his last start, which went six innings against
Akron July 11. He started and beat Binghamton July 6 with
seven innings of three-run work in Erie’s 12-4 win at NYSEG
Stadium. He is 5-5 with a 3.82 ERA in 101.1 innings this year.
His inning total is fourth most in the Eastern League entering
play today and he leads the league in complete games with
three. Kibler was drafted in the 30th round out of Michigan
State in 2007

WABICK SHINES AT EASTERN LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME:

In his
first career professional all-star game, B-Mets outfielder D.J.
Wabick shined. Wabick went 2-4 with a double and an RBI as
the starting leftfielder for the Northern Division All-Stars. Lefty
Roy Merritt took the loss in the game as he allowed a run in
the eighth inning, but did manage to strike out two men.

Wabick hit over .300 his first year playing in Savannah and seems to be hitting everywhere he plays. What do you think of his future? What is his downside?

His downside is like all the Mets minor league outfielders... no pop and lots of fizz
