GNATS DOUBLE UPDOGS 6-3 WEDNESDAY


Savannah, GA - TheSavannah Gnats defeated the Charleston RiverDogs 6-3 Wednesday night in therubber game of the three-game series at Historic Grayson Stadium to move withintwo games of first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division. TheGnats finished their seven-game home stand at 4-3.

The Gnats (28-17) took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the bottom ofthe first inning. With one out and the bases loaded, 3B Aderlin Rodriguez doubled to deep leftfield to tie the game. 1B Brian Harrison followed with agroundball doubleplay that brought home a run and produced a 3-2 Savannah lead.

Savannah tacked on a single run in the second inning and two morein the fourth to build a 6-2 advantage. DH GilbertGomez, in his first game in the leadoff spot for Savannah, drove home a runin both innings. He finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and two drivenhome.

Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

The ‘Dogs (30-15) picked up their final run in the top of thefifth against Domingo Tapia. Tapiafinished six innings, yielding three runs, all earned, on seven hits. He walkedtwo and struck out six to earn fourth win of the year to improve to 4-2.Reliever Jared West retired thefinal six batters of the game, striking out two to pick up his first save as aGnat.

Charleston scored the game’s first two runs in the top of thefirst inning on a two-run single by LF BenGamel to take a short-lived 2-0 lead.
