Mack and Company - Zack Wheeler

Joe from Bayonne -      With Zack Wheeler's fantastic recent start (8 IP, 2 hit), his ERA sits at 1.97 in AA. When would be the right time for a promotion to AAA?

Mack Ade – I think the most enjoyment I have got out of this season so far is the fact that Sandy and Company haven’t rushed anyone. Right now, there isn’t any room in Buffalo for another starter and the pitching coach there needs to spend all the time he can with Jeurys Familia and Matt Harvey. Leave everything status quo. Harvey and Familia in 2013, Wheeler and division title in 2014, Fulmer, Tapia, and ticker tape parade in 2015

.
Art Scott - The Behaviorist--  There are equally as many examples of pitchers who were supposedly "rushed" and it killed their career, as there are those who took their time and did everything right, and some invisible curtain seems to ruin their career (not that it's always invisible.  Gooden's cocaine use--though some say it was a sign of bringing him up too early, O'Leary's Injury, injuries to Paul Wilson, Bill Pulsipher, and IIRC, even Jason Isringhausen, the boys of Generation K were all babied on their way up).  John Olerud never played a day of minor league ball after college, and he seemed to do just fine, so I'm not one who believes a whole lot in holding pitchers back when they're getting outs all over the place. Gooden went from A ball to the majors to Rookie of the Year to the Cy Young in 3 years.  Were it not for the coke and too much futzing with what he did best, lord only knows what we'd have seen from Gooden.  The Mets are obviously short a starter now (forgive me, but Batista doesn't thrill me, and Hefner less so), and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the Mets give Wheeler a chance at the show right from AA right now, but that's the sabrametrician in me.  If he gets smacked, alright, send him back down, but if he experiences success, we might just be wasting some of his very excellent young years.  As far as going to AAA, there's little question in my mind Wheeler's ready for that and should be promoted immediately.

Jack Flynn – Zack Wheeler would make an excellent candidate to break camp with the Buffalo Bisons in 2013. Seven starts at Double-A isn't nearly enough time to master the level. Zack can hone his craft at Binghamton for the rest of the season, turn some heads in the big-league camp next March, then report to Buffalo to have a crack at the International League.

Anthony Carnacchio - Honestly, he is really starting to shine. However, I want him to ABSOLUTELY dominate AA hitters before he gets the bump up. I think a big part of being a successful pitcher is confidence. Let him get to a point where he is bored and then I think bump him up to AAA. I believe that flying high with confidence can really propel a guy to an entirely different level.

Sadiq Rahman - Hey Joe from Bayonne,I have a fear of screwing prospects up, and Zack Wheeler is our best prospect with the most potential to impact the future of the Mets. Right now Zack sits at roughly 44 innings, while the Mets want all of their heavy duty pitching prospects to throw 100 innings in Double AA. I say leave him there until the All Star Break, and check back with him in July. If he keeps up this torrid pace, I can live with Zack at AAA. I understand how Mets fans want to see their prospects sooner rather than later. But Zack Wheeler is special, I wouldn't mind seeing him develop if that is what he needs to lead the Mets rotation going forward.

Stephen Guilbert - I agree with A-Car but to a degree. Even with his fantastic start, his walk rate is still above 4.0/9. I would love to see that number get below 4.0 and consistently before he gets promoted.

Brian Berness  - I think for once we have the luxury of letting a young pitcher continue to dominate his level. I wouldn't send him to Buffalo until after the all-star break which would set him up for Citi Field late next year.
David Rubin – Zack Wheeler represents both the future of this team and all that has traditionally meant something to Mets' fans- great pitching!! Since the days of Tony B & Omar are long gone, taking with them their predilection for promoting the wrong people to the wrong level at the wrong time, I agree with most here that the right "play" at this time is to leave Zack well enough alone in AA all season long. Let him (and a Met prospect, for once) have an overwhelmingly great season for a change in the minors, and let him be someone that all of the minor league (so-called) experts can rave about in the off-season. Buffalo in 2013 sounds right; Citifield in 2014, as Mack has said all along, makes the most sense by far!
